Title: Keranos Knows Best
Post by: Joshnoodles on April 23, 2014, 07:09:36 AM
Keranos Knows Best

60 cards, 0 sideboard

4 {Steam Vents}
4 {Temple of Epiphany}
12 {Mountain}
3 {Island}

22 lands

4 {Frostburn Weird}
4 {Ash Zealot}
2 {Firefist Striker}
4 {Chandra's Phoenix}
3 {Boros Recknoner}
2 {Ogre Battledriver}
3 {Fanatic of Mogis}
2 {Stormbreath Dragon}
3 {Keranos, God of Storms}

28 creatures

4 {Lightning Strike}
4 {Magma Jet}
2 {Frost Breath}

10 other spells

Sideboard

Notes:
I wanted to make a deck that used keranos to the best of his ability and upon reviewing what blue and red cards were legal I came to the conclusion that an aggro strategy would be the best way to exploit the new god. The explanation for frost breath is that it keeps big creatures tap down for two turns which could be long enough to give me a win.

Idk know about thassa. Since this deck is so aggressive having a creature that just sits there not attacking will feel like a slap in the face to me. If anything I'd run purphuros over thassa but I feel like keranos is all to together better cause his ability can hit creatures.

I know it's mostly aggro but will you be able to cast your 5 drops consistently enough with 22 lands?

I'm not totally sure about the curve cause I've had no testing but seeing as I only have 5 5 drops I don't think it's to much of a problem. Plus the fact that it's aggro makes me worried about running too many lands.

looks fun but i think you can do better than {nivix cyclops}. especially with only ten instants and sorceries.

The only reason I have him in here is because I needed another 3 drop to fit my curve and there are no other good 3 drops in this format.

Also i don't rly think aggro a very suitable shell for keranos. He'd be much better as a late game card advantage engine / wincon in {U}{W}{R} control

{boros reckoner} should swap for cyclops it'd further you're devotion and also not be a dead defender in an aggro deck relying on 8 island sources has some potential to be uncastable as well.

Have you considered two {purphorpus of the forge} over the {ogre battle driver}?

It'll ping for an additional 2 damage worst case on creature hit if not activated which may synergies well with new god trigger and allows for turn five/six pumps for the finisher.

Keranos is very good in that scenario but I wanted to see how good he preformed in a deck that would let him attack. In this deck he is a beady creature that can be on fairly easy, he allows you to draw additional cards when you hit dead lands, and let's you lightning bolt on almost every upkeep for a potential 9 damage per turn for just him. I feel like he's a very fexible card but people only see his control side.

I forgot about reckoner. I feel stupid now. Also I'm just testing the battle driver cause I thought he was a cool card. Plus I really don't want 5 ledgendary creatures that will just sit there doing nothing when my devotion is low.

Keranos is very good in that scenario but I wanted to see how good he preformed in a deck that would let him attack. The problem with keranos in aggro is that he's a five drop that doesn't immediately have potential to swing a game the turn he comes down and with five drops that extra turn it takes for him to get going could very well cost you the game.
