Why black?
Tons of easy removal.
{Murder}
{Go for the throat}
{Doomblade}
I may go white green but to keep up the deck is going to need tons of removal

I had no idea Modern death and taxes was a thing. I did know about tokens because I used to play B/W tokens. Right now I play mostly affinity and I want to try something new

If I remember correctly, modern DnT plays either mono white or {W}/{B} shell using {Mangara of Corondor}, recursion and the classic lockdown that DnT is known for to give him the time to exile enough permanents to win.

EDIT: Ah yes I found an example of what I meant:

Many decks use {Mangara of Corondor} + {Flickerwisp} as well.

The GW shell was made famous by Brian Kibler: http://www.mtgdecks.net/decks/view/55902

The reason I like the splash for Souls and Vault is that this deck has access to a lot of cards to beat combo ({{Suppression Field}}, {{Torpor Orb}}, {{Ghostly Prison}}), so a couple of cards to help beat fair decks might not be bad.
Yes this is a great shell as well.
