With the final spoilings of JOU, I find my standard deck turning floppy. I look at what currently will rotate in Oct and I wonder - should I just sell now? The feeling is yes. With no major GPs or SCG opens till October in my area (unless I want to drive to vegas or portland...) I don't really want to commit to another few months of standard. My local stores usually don't get large prize packages, and rarely do we get more than 2 pods for an FNM, so with these factors in mind with the additional factors of having to modify my decks for the newest cards: Standard just seems unattractive right now. I feel like the occasional draft will serve me better with this set rather than keeping up with the Jones' of standard.
I like JOU - don't get me wrong, it just seems like decks are being modified way more with this set in hand, rather than BNG. I feel BNG replaced maybe 2-3 cards in a deck, but with JOU I'm seeing a whole new world of decks and at this current point, I may want to wait till "Huey" to play standard again. I will dearly miss my charms, and don't feel like wracking my brain again with how to defend against all meta.
I can see why people keep dropping out of standard.
Standard just doesnt make sense a lot of the time, with 300$ decks because theres only so many playable cards and every deck just uses the best couple of each color. At that price you can get a sizable foot into modern so why bother? It just.. Doesnt make sense
Gravepact coming back for black is pretty legit.
I think that mono black will be a deck for a while. It's got a lot going for it.
To the OP: I agree. JOU brings so much to the table that for just FNM it doesn't seem worth the time, money, or effort to alter RTR-era decks with JOU cards. I think a good time to get back into it would be after RTR rotates.
{Hubris} finally gives Hexproof a way to avoid {Supreme Verdict}, so I don't know about you, but I am making Bant Hexproof.
I think JOU is amazing. It will mix things up and we will see a variety of interesting decks for a little while. I don't know about you guys, but I am working on 4 decks right now.
well {Deicide} has wrecked mono blue devotion. the new standard should be interesting.
