After {Force of Will} and {Daze}, what are the best counters in Legacy? I don't think I can drop the money for a playset of FoW...
You know, I really think {Spell Pierce} is pretty solid. If you're playing red, definitely {Red Elemental Blast}. And don't forget {Mana Leak}
{Counterspell}, {Swan Song}, {Spell Pierce}
I love me some {Flusterstorm}.
Most Tempo and Control decks run Daze and Force of Will, since they can be cast without giving up the ability to cast spells on your turn. The next most popular has to be Spell Pierce, because it costs only a single mana. Swan Song also sees a little play in decks that just don't care about giving the opponent a 2/2. UW(r) Miracles occasionally plays Counterspell, as it fills another slot and only costs too mana. Red-Based decks will play Red Elemental Blast and Pyroblast. Both work really well with Painter's servant, as it lets you counter or blow up anything. Young Pyromancer decks prefer Pyroblast, because it can be cast with any target to generate a 1/1, even if it fails to blow anything up. Oh, and then there's Flusterstorm. Which is Flusterstorm.
Control decks don't run daze, but I agree with the rest.
{Misdirection} is used in some decks.
What would happen if you used {misdirection} on a counterspell (say, {cancel}), and redirected it to {misdirection}?
Mindsploosh
{remand} is good and {arcane denial} is ok depending on the deck it's in

Direction would already have resolves, so nothing.
Well the way that it works is that Misdirection is still on the stack while it's resolving, so it's a legal choice to change a target to. You change the target to Misdirection, it goes to the graveyard, then the original Counterspell is countered by the game due to lack of legal target. Pretty standard use of redirect cards.
Ok, the counters are for a Merfolk deck

I don't know what format you're playing with cancel and misdirection but it probably isn't legacy. ;-)
Standard, obviously
