Title: trigger ability
Post by: imFourth of Phils on April 13, 2014, 02:51:47 AM
{Bind} doesn't cancel ETB abilities right? (i mean, like {Torpor Orb} for {Phyrexian Dreadnought} that's why {Stifle} is so expensive

Right. An activated ability is written as: "[cost]: [effect]." This is an ability that can be countered. Triggered abilities use the words "When", "whenever"," "As", or "At" and do not require a cost.

I thought the word "as" didn't count as triggered. {phyrexian Revoker}s ability is not triggered.

112.3c Triggered abilities have a trigger condition and an effect. They are written as "[Trigger condition], [effect]," and include (and usually begin with) the word "when," "whenever," or "at." Whenever the trigger event occurs, the ability is put on the stack the next time a player would receive priority and stays there until it's countered, it resolves, or it otherwise leaves the stack. See rule 603, "Handling Triggered Abilities."

Right, "as" doesn't indicate triggers. It indicates replacement effects, which don't use the stack. "As {Cavern of Souls} enters the battlefield..."
