I think he means that he gets rid of the Bug to get two guys back, then gives them haste. Nothing too bad here.

That is the proper usage of gay.
Words can only be offensive if you WANT them to.. Otherwise gay is the same as chocolate, its a word with a definition. Dont give a word so much power, youre the one in control not a word in the english language :)
