Title: Hive Mind, The Musical!
Post by: Sparkle Ninja on March 29, 2014, 11:34:39 PM
Hive Mind, The Musical!

60 cards, 0 sideboard

8 {Island}
4 {Breeding Pool}
8 {Forest}

20 lands

3 {Birds of Paradise}
4 {Arbor Elf}

7 creatures

4 {Utopia Sprawl}
4 {Summoner's Pact}
4 {Gitaxian Probe}
3 {Intervention Pact}
4 {Slaughter Pact}
3 {Simic Signet}
4 {Hive Mind}
3 {Pact of Negation}
4 {Pact of the Titan}

33 other spells

Sideboard
4 {Fog}

Notes:
The point of the deck is to ramp into {Hive Mind} then drop a pact card I know the opponent can't pay for.... They lose 'cause they can't pay for it. I get t3 hive mind then kill them with a pact. Its stupid and jenky yet incredibly fun

I say make room for {gitaxian probe} and perhaps other cantrips to get to your crucial combo piece faster, without it you cant do much of anythig

{serum visions} may also deserve a spot, though gitaxian is better because its free-er

How much does this build cost? And you should update it with fetchlands and {birds of paradise} and other more expensive cards and tell us the cost f that too, assuming you wanted to make it as competitive as possible

Why would I fill it with expensive cards? Theres no point to that. It works incredibly well the way it is. Its like buying a minivan brand new then saying it needs more fire coming out of the front so you buy a flamethrower for it. Its just unnecessary. At this point the only thing I'd change out would be the llanowar elves for birds of paradise but otherwise it works pretty much perfectly. Also the total build cost is almost exactly 100 USD

Find this really glassy. First off only 4 win cons. When you want to win turn 3 you only get 10 cards. And law of average is 1 of 15 so five games you will not get to it out of 15. Next not enough lands when you need a land drop every turn. I would suggest dropping a few pacts to add land and a tutors.

Also I would SB some type of  {Regrowth} ( I know that's not modern but something similar).

Well you could add fetched and {gitaxian probe} to greatly increase chances of hitting all your combo pieces, so i think itd be worth it

Also addig a {sol ring} and other mana rocks like that would benefitthis deck as well

It may work really well im just saying for people who dont mind spendig a ton on mtg it could be made more consistent for a lot more money, i just was wondering how much more

Well yea but Dstyle made a kinda silly comment lol, uhhh.. Idk i think theres probaby better ramp than the signet though.. I have no extensive knowledge of modern however
Title: Re: Hive Mind, The Musical!
Post by: Sparkle Ninja on March 31, 2014, 12:09:36 AM
i know there is but I like the signet due to the fact that I can use mana from a mana dork to activate it
Title: Re: Hive Mind, The Musical!
Post by: MisterJH on March 31, 2014, 12:40:57 AM
But is it the most effective? I feel there has to be more efficient ramp

Well there is but it's stuff that would take up my t3 when I'm supposed to combo the opponent to death

Well where is the third forest from. To have your ideal hand you need to have everything you need in your hand. You can draw dead

Uh draw it? Im just saying thats the ideal plays, its based in drawing The rihht number of forests and a utopia and an arbor elf and a hive mind and a pact(7 total cards) plus 2-3 draws so theres a little wiggle room

Check out my tier 1 decks list.  All of the decks have some way to hose this deck.  Most of it being {remand}s and {cryptic command}s and {snapcaster Mage}s.

Yes, you might win game one, but game 2 and 3, they know your gameplan and will work around it and hose you.
Ok. I'll beat the shizzle sizzle out tat them though

{Serum Visions}, {Sleight of Hand}.

You should have deck filtering to draw into Hive Mind and can scry away the clunky Pacts.

Gitaxian Probe is a great card, but not insurance for getting the cards you need.

I also suggested serum visions to be fair! which is probably better than gitaxian, despite slowing you down a turn.. Worst case scenario you have a god hand and dont even play it, oh no!

Actually, how about changing this into a Gifts control deck with Snapcaster Mage and using the Pacts to control the board or field with 1-2 hiveminds and mainland as a wincondition? It would be a better game plan in my opinion and you could abuse Hivemind even more.

That would ruin the entire fun of the deck, from what i can tell the entire point is to make it janky and solely use hivemind

Thats how i like to make my decks, and changing it around completely would do just that

Keep it ridiculous sparkle!!

Consider it done! I got second with this deck at a modern tournament today. It's faster than control decks can deal with. Especially with all the pacts. I ended up losing to a {R}/{G} from after getting mana flooded with a pact of the Titan

Yeah, although it needs less pacts and more ramp. Also some form of tutor?

I played against American control, won on t3.
