Title: Modern Event Deck: Speculation and what not
Post by: MuggyWuggy on March 13, 2014, 01:07:20 PM
Spoiled:

Alright
So we know its B/W tokens that they are including in this set.

Now the deck will cost $75 MSRP and will probably be sold at more, depending on its contents.

{Elspeth, Knight-Errant} makes another appearance, most likely same art as MMs

{Hero of Bladehold} also has been mentioned as making an appearance.

{intangible virtue} also makes an appearance

This is indicating a token heavy deck.

It comes with "5 double sided tokens"

So we assume elspeth and hero are for soldier tokens.

The other tokens? The box picture stated black disruption.

Strong rumor: Possible bitter blossom? Unbanned recently, cheap token generator, high in value, so a reprint would help balance it's price.

My speculation: Wurmcoil engine!

He's seen in modern, token maker, a decent price also, very flexible for a b/w token deck and the tokens for it are very b/w characteristics

Keep in mind if the MSRP if $75, it wont just have elspeth in it.

Perhaps the b/w fetch land? I feel the deck will have more than MSRP value in order to create demand. Perhaps a few key cards seen in many modern decks will be here, possible one ofs, allowing players chances at being able to finish their current decks with a purchase of an event deck or two.

Monoblack can pretty much be bought for around $80 with the BoG event deck now out.

With that bein said, I do think this deck will hold up in a basic modern event, prolly won't win a GP with it out of the box, but possibly with modifications it could.

So we have until late April to find out everything before we are spoiled.

Not really, but they couldn't give us a really competitive deck without either making the cards crash or making the decks cost hundreds of dollars.

Probably  {Path to Exile} too. It's been in a duel deck before I believe and I dont think another printing will hurt its price. It's worth £3 forever

I believe they will try to make an event deck that can win a few hands, but rarely could win a tournament

I'm doing just fine with Esper Tokens! Today I beat Tempo Twin just straight UR and I beat Kikki Pod both with Esper Tokens.

Why Esper?

{Polymorph}!! Protect it/do it when they can't counter it be patient it's worth it and you can (if you're lucky get a T4 {Emrakul the Aeons Torne} I know what you're thinking pretty glassy but ok cool I still can win by out racing people with {Intangible Virtue} and {Honor of the Pure} I just swarm the field with tokens and it makes it very difficult to deal with!!

Trust me it's good just hasn't been tested lol

A more casual person can buy one hopefully.

With limited availability this product will never reach the casual players' hands. Collectors are going to scoop it up too fast, or those wanting fetch lands.

It's cool that they put in a sword.

Agree the sword is cool, same with inquisition and paths, but major disappointment :( wouldn't kill them to put in a godless or something. It's not even a borderline competitive modern deck for 75$
Title: Re: Modern Event Deck: Speculation and what not
Post by: Spencer Addington on May 13, 2014, 01:41:38 AM
The value if all the cards seem to come to around 75$. I'm just mad they didn't put in a few {hero of bladehold} or something like that. I would have been surprised if they put in shock lands.

I like the deck.  It is worth $75 IMO.  But alas I will pass.  If anything I will buy it and keep it sealed in hopes it will appreciate.

As someone who plays tokens this deck is a great STARTER deck for modern. It provides a great base of what you need and then from there you can add/remove the stuff you want. I'm not picking one up but only bc I have everything other than the sword.

Also not many modern decks are prepared for tokens it can be a great deck!!

So... How will this affect the price of the sword and Elspeth?

Doesn't look bad. I'm still gonna pick up two(one to play one to keep sealed).

are you allowed to play modern, not counting affinity, sans fetch lands? sad to see such a weak deck, i want the sword and thats it.

My two modern decks don't use fetch lands... And they are good enough to win my local FNM

Just hard to justify at $75

GW hatebears is another deck that doesn't  play fetchlands. There is a big difference between competitive modern and modern. I would have liked to seeva more competitive tournament style deck. Either tokens or martyr, not a weird mix of both for the sake of reprinting cards. It seems good to give the option for people to make either deck but also more $$$
