Title: Aetherling
Post by: RDJDenley on March 08, 2014, 02:18:18 PM
Can aetherling use his tapped abilities multiple times during the same phase ( his +1 ability) to culminate his attach power?

All activated abilities can be used as many times you can afford the cost. {aetherling} has a cost of {U} or {1} and as long as you have the mana, go nuts.

Although {avacyn pilgrim} has a cost of {T} and can not be paid while it is already tapped.

TL:DR you can't pay for what you can't afford

They are not tap abilities:)
When a card does not show the symbol like aetherling does not it is a *MANA ABILITY* since it requires mana to activate and can be activated anytime at which he could attack(summoning sickness applies)
But remember that the +1 is a +1/-1 so you are decreasing his toughness making him easier to beat...
So be careful, great card when you have all the mana you need.
So, in point, aetherling has mana abilities (mana to activate), not tap abilities (tapping required) or triggered abilities (keywords when, whenever). not trying to sound mean. Just wanting to help:)

Not true.

605.1a An activated ability is a mana ability if it meets three criteria: it doesn't have a target, it could put mana into a player's mana pool when it resolves, and it's not a loyalty ability. (See rule 606, "Loyalty Abilities.")

{Aetherling}'s abilities are just activated abilities.

Since ætherlings abilities do not require him to tap, you may activate them as many times as you wish, as long as you have mana open.

Protip:
Always after attacking with ætherling, exile him so he comes back untapped at end of your turn. Keeping a versatile blocker open.

Just try to have 3 blue mana open with him during opponents turn so you can avoid wipes/kills/sacs that will come up once he's on the board.

Ie Supreme verdict (bounce)
Comes back at end of turn
Heroes downfall! (Bounce)

Saves!

So if someone cast supreme verdict (for example), I could activate his 'bounce' ability and that would resolve first?

I wasn't aware abilities were stacked! I assumed instants would resolve first

Instant and sorcery just determine when you can cast a spell. Everything uses the stack, and the stack always resolves last in first out.

This means aetherling can respond to divine verdict by using his bounce ability, but then someone can respond to that with another removal spell, which aetherling can respond to etc etc until someone runs out of responses

Activated abilities on creatures and artifacts are at instant speed unless otherwise stated

If someone attacks with {Kalonian Hydra} at a 8/8 and I block with him can I bounce him after the block and he survive?
yes you can. Once you've declared blockers, you can blink him and the Hydra will deal no damage.

yes you can. Once you've declared blockers, you can blink him and the Hydra will deal no damage.
However, since the Hydra has trample, it deals 0 to the non-existent blocker and 8 to you. If the blocked creature didn't have trample, then it wouldn't deal damage to you or aetherling.
