So I am a college student currently leasing an apartment with another guy. About three weeks ago he got all pissed off because a girl he liked started sleeping with another dude, so he decides to punch in a door. Then this past weekend maintance came in to fix the heating ducts in out apartment and saw the broken door so they sent a guy out to fix it the next day. Then came the rent payment and there was an additional $40 for the door replacement, seeing how I am broke my parents had given me just enough to cover rent and have $5 left in my account, but since there was an extra 40 on the bill my account got over drawn.
Now here is the kicker, my roommate is trying to say it isn't his fault that the door got replaced an that he shouldn't have to pay me back for the realty companies mistake, how scummy is that? I have the urge just to smack him senseless, and I'm not even being Jewish, I only want $40 for the door not the extra $35 in overdraft fees
Well first of all: nothing wrong with being Jewish.
2nd he should pay, if not consider a new roommate, if you are fit together by a student program housing, request to the main person a new roommate. Living with a young person who breaks things due to relationship issues is not safe or healthy for yourself.
3rd - never link auto payments to your bank account, that's how auto overdraft ruins ones bank account when younger ( I know from personal experience)
Yep so true about the automatic payment. The only payment I have to my bank account is the minimum payment to my credit card. In case I some how forget to pay. Don't want the late payment charge.
Are you the only person on the lease?
You could have the management request the payment from them if you are renting.. If they are at fault then they are liable to pay. Management would know how to deal with it very quickly, guaranteed it is not their first time.
And they are liable for the extra fees effect upon you. They would have to pay you the 35.. You could take to small claims, it just takes time out of your day but you would get it:)

Ya the door itself is cheap as dick. The lease I am signed on is me and the other guy. And the only reason I have automatic payment is if I don't pay the bill the bastards of a realty place charge an additional $50 for late payment (learned that the hard way) and was attempting to avoid that haha but the .poo. still hit the fan

If you call the bank and explain there's a big chance they will revoke the overdraft fee. Also, tell your roomie he should have expected that he'd have to pay for the door he broke and to stop crying.
I got it all settled, I actually talked to the realty place and the reimbursed me and switched it to him, he then proceeded to get more pissed and broke my door too, now here's the funny part, he basically threatened me and so I proceed to call the cops and they come by and he was freaking out, well first off he got arrested and I told them what had been happening and they were given permission to search his room. Turns out he was dealing drugs or something because he had 6 oz of weed, 140 hits of acid, and a bag of coke in his closest...soooo ya he isn't going to be coming back for a long time
