Title: Targeting issue
Post by: Ryggrad on March 03, 2014, 06:59:26 PM
If you play {dismiss into dream} and follow it up with {archetype of imagination}, why does the ability of {archetype of imagination} not board wipe all opposing creatures? It seems to me that if the enchantment affects all opponents creatures, they should be sacrificed when the archetype drops whether it says target creature(s) or not. Anyone care to clarify?

Because it is not targeting those creatures. Dimiss says they have to be targeted:)

I understand that. However if all opponents creatures lose/can't gain flying, how are they not targeted then?

Because it does not use the word "target", it is the same as {golgari charm} against {invisible stalker}.. The card dismiss into dreams uses the word target while the other card effects all of them so it is global so they are not destroyed.

But if the card said targets then it is a different story

Any suggestions on something that would work well with {dismiss into dreams}?

What I was actually aiming for was something that can clear the field of creatures. So a multi targeting card.

Mostly just single ones, because things like {Cyclonic Rift} get changed into "each" and do not work

Search the database for anything that targets "X creatures." Or, you can always go the {Goblin Sharpshooter} route.

That would be each and not target, so does not work

You can use {Cauldron of Souls} with {Dismiss into Dream} to board wipe.

Repeatable effect, only needs to tap to activate, and all round solid card. :)

For a more recent card , {glimpse the sun god} would be good with dismiss.

But dismiss is a great card:)

Use {sky games}. You turn them into illusions and tell them to fly away
