Title: City of Traitors
Post by: Maxpayne03 on February 24, 2014, 11:40:41 PM
 {City of Traitors},  {Blood Moon}.
Do I have to sacrifice city of traitors when I play another land while Blood moon is in play?

No. You won't have to sac it. From blood moon's gatherer rulings:

6/7/2013   Nonbasic lands will lose any other land types and abilities they had. They will become Mountains and gain the ability "{T}: Add {R} to your mana pool."

It loses the sacrifice ability.

so does {blood moon} make guildgates and shocklands automatically enter untapped like a normal mountain would?

yes. With  {Blood Moon} out, whenever a nonbasic land would enter the battlefield, it would enter as a mountain.

Actually, lands that come into play tapped do so despite {Blood Moon}'s effects. Since {Blood Moon} affects permanents on the battlefield only it doesn't change the text that states how a card enters the battlefield. So if you play a guildgate it comes into play tapped but is just a mountain when it does. Likewise for a shockland to come into lay untapped one must pay two life, it then immediately becomes a mountain.

Here's the specific ruling from gatherer if you're interested:

"If a nonbasic land has an ability that causes it to enter the battlefield tapped, that ability will still function. For example, if Blood Crypt is entering the battlefield, its controller may pay 2 life to have it enter untapped. Regardless of this choice, it will be only a Mountain and not a Swamp."

so whats the reason why taplands still enter tapped but bounce lands dont bounce?

Now that I can answer. Take  {Orzhov Basilica} for example. With blood moon out, it would still enter the battlefield tapped, since it states, "Orzhov Basilica enters the battlefield tapped". But, it doesn't bounce a land because that's when it enters the battlefield. When it enters the battlefield {Blood Moon} says oh you're a mountain before it checks for an etb trigger.
