Does countering stop abilities that say when this card enters the battlefield?
Nope
Counters stop spells from resolving
A spell that enters the battlefield would be considered resolved
Not sure about that muggy :p
If a spell is countered, it is cast, but does not resolve. For example
{Young Pyromancer} WILL trigger if your instant or sorcery is countered.
{Snapcaster Mage} will NOT trigger and instant or sorcery to have flashback because Snappie never entered the battlefield
Thanks Testset, I think I just misunderstood lol
Dylan you're adding in factors that don't apply to the original question
Triggers when spells are cast are different from a spell resolving
He asked about ETB effects which are most normally a result of a spell resolving.

To back up my answer, I was under the impression that this is what was asked and what was answered
Ral asked if countering a spell stops an ETB trigger (which I guess I misunderstood)
You answered Nope. As in even if it is countered, ETB triggers will resolve (which I misunderstood)
Then I answered with examples of when a spell is countered, what would resolve in terms of abilities or triggers? So I clarified that if a card says "When it is cast", whether it was countered or not, the ability happens, whereas an ETB trigger would not
I guess I misunderstood the question so then I didn't understand the answer given
If a spell with an ETB effect is countered, it never enters the battlefield, thus the ability never triggers... That IS correct; isn't it??? Lol XD
701.5a (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=701.5a): To counter a spell or ability means to cancel it, removing it from the stack. It doesn't resolve and none of its effects occur. A countered spell is put into its owner's graveyard.
