You need 4 of each combo piece and 4 {Serum Powder} to make the deck anywhere close to playable. Otherwise, it's totally inconsistent (well, it still is, but less so).

Yes, but there are cards like it that can do better or different things. It was a mention of the idea of cards.

+4 Visions of Beyond
-4 Mountains
+2 Grapeshot
+2 Island
And Crimson Wisp.
Ok theres a card that you can exile from your had for {R} mana thats legal in modern i believe..? Wouldnt that be good here, maybe in place of 4 mountains? Lets you go off on turn 1 on occasion if you see a {crimson wisps}
