Title: Elite Archanist
Post by: Subiskier on February 18, 2014, 08:56:10 AM
How does {Elite Archanist} work with cards with fuse such as {alive/ well}. Can you choose to play one side or the other? Or is the cmc the combined cost of both sides no matter what? How about cards with X in the cost? Can you still pay X for instance {fireball}?

It's such a powerful card I want to see works.
Thanks

Also can you use {elite archanist} with overload to {mizzium skin} all my creatures?

Even though elite archanists' text says "cast" the spell and fuse spells say you "may cast" one or both sides? Overload cards say "you may cast for the overload cost"?
Because elite archanist is copying the spell those features are not considered?

Please note that the fuse mechanic states "you may cast one or both sides of this card from your hand." You are not casting this spell from your hand.
702.101a: Fuse is a static ability found on some split cards (see rule 708, "Split Cards") that applies while the card with fuse is in a player's hand. If a player casts a split card with fuse from his or her hand, the player may choose to cast both halves of that split card. This choice is made before putting the split card with fuse onto the stack. The resulting spell is a fused split spell.

702.101b: A fused split spell has two sets of characteristics and one converted mana cost. The converted mana cost of the spell is a number equal to the total amount of mana in its two mana costs, regardless of color.
This is why you must pay for the total cmc. But since you aren't casting it from your hand, you have to choose the characteristics of one side.
