Title: Anowon the ruin sage.
Post by: Richardalcala on March 29, 2012, 12:55:10 AM
Hey guys running a mono black edh deck with {anowon the ruin sage} as my general. I have about 27 creature with about 27 spells. My question is should I drop some creatures and go for more spells. Thoughts please and thank you.

That's only 54. Are you running 45 land? ???

Agreed, don't drop anything, add more! 45 land is way too much!

Ok looking at everyone else deck list they are running about 35 to 40 lands. I am running 40. So u guys think that's too many. This is my first time with edh I just don't want to get mana screwed. Back to my original question with my general do you think I should go with more control removal or with more creatures. Thank you for the input.

Considering you are playing mono-black (you ARE playing mono-B, right?) then you don't have to worry about color-screw.  You could also use cards like {Dark Ritual}, {Cabal Ritual}, {Lake of the Dead}, and similar card for some mana excel.  If you have them, of course.  Otherwise, probably best to stay on the higher end of mana until you've felt out the deck a bit.  Go with 38-40.

Remember, all of this advice is coming from one who has never played a game of Commander.  So, maybe wait to hear from someone with experience.   ;)

I like to keep most of my edh decks with around 30-35 lands. It's worked out so far. Since you're mono black, you don't need any fancy lands. Depending on your curve of course, you'll have to play test a lot! Both 1vs1 and multi. You'll never know until you try. I say start with 30, then test it out. But that's just me. Post your deck list for some better advice too
