This is modern legal yes, but it appears to be a casual deck

This wall is meant for semi-competitive to competitive deck lists. For feedback. This is neither of the two, and if you want to make it modern competitive, research deck lists and start with a sturdy, tested deck list then make it your own. I'm not saying home brews are bad, they aren't, but it's easier to get into modern with a proven deck. Then you learn from there.

With a few changes, you could make this standard.

Do you know how competitive your meta is? If you're new to modern, I'd recommend merfolk.

Well then, let's see what we can do! Are you willing to sink money into this deck? How much? Do you want to stick with simic? If you want to start a modern deck that's really cheap, there are a few budget red deck wins floating around the interwebs.

Merfolk is pretty amazing, and can be somewhat budget.

I'd recommend humans over Merfolk. But I really love humans so my opinion is biased

Humans is in no way a competitive modern deck.

Easily edged out by most semi competitive and competitive decks.. Sorry. I'm sure it's a blast to play, but.. Yeah.

Would you like to wall game to see how it compares to a tier 1 deck? It seems to me that it is a casual deck doing well in a casual meta, but I'd be happy to play you to see who's right.

A bit harsh, but Abstract is right, the Human deck is good in a casual meta, and I think that deck has a place there. It's not that your deck is bad, it's that Modern Tier 1 is so good

I would like to point out that this build was all me , had no one look at it.

I used a deck from tcgplayer.com as a guide by mana cost for creatures and such

Yeah sorry, that came off more rudely than I meant it to. It's really hard to grasp the jump to competitive magic without seeing how competitive decks steamroll most other decks, though.

That's a good way to build casual decks, and if your meta is laid back enough that you can get away with casual magic in tournaments, all power to you.

I can't tell you about standard, but if you want to make it modern viable I'd make it mono-U merfolk with playsets of {Æther Vial}s, {Vapor Snag}, {Spreading Seas}, {Lord of Atlantis}, {Master of the Pearl Trident}, {Master of Waves}, and {Silvergill Adept}.

The only cards this list has which overlap with modern merfolk are islands... :(

I see what you mean but it has been performing really nicely against mostly every deck I've played. I usually turn 1 champion of the parish and play more creatures every turn.In the end I tend to win with thirty some creatures on the field and just trample over everything with my swarm

It may do well in your meta, but if your deck cannot consistently win, destroy half your opponent's lands, and/ or answer every spell your opponent casts by turn 4, it is not competitive.

I'm absolutely with Abstract on this. Basically, if you're deck is not $500+, it probably isn't competitive. Affinity, Merfolk, and RDW are about the only decks that come to mind that trump that. If you plan on playin anything blue, expect to buy 2-4 {Cryptic Command}s, {Remand}s, and {Snapcaster Mage}. If you plan on playing more than one color, expect to buy at least six fetch lands ({Misty Rainforest}, {Scalding Tarn}, etc.)  That being said, modern is my favorite format by far. Once you get those expensive playsets, you don't really ever have a reason to get rid of then or buy more. Look up Top8 decklists and get a feel for competitive modern. It'll help in the long run!
