Title: Mikeaus
Post by: Sparkle Ninja on February 12, 2014, 11:40:04 PM
I'm trying to build a story deck for innistrad and now I'm wondering if I can have {Mikeaus the Lunarch} and {Mikeaus the Unhallowed} on the field at the same time?

Yes. The Legend rule depends on the name of the card.

Relevant ruling

704.5k (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=704.5k): If a player controls two or more legendary permanents with the same name, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners' graveyards. This is called the "legend rule."

Dangit?
The "name" includes Mike's titles on each card as well. They're different, so you can have both out.

They have no synergy with each other.

It's the planeswalker rule that prevents two card with same name AJANI goldmane and AJANI caller of the Pride

Just to clarify, with planeswalkers it's not so much the name that matters as it is the type line. Every different Jace, for example, has the type line "Planeswalker - Jace" regardless of name. Right now there is no Planeswalker that doesn't include it's own name in the card name, so what you say is technically true, but it might make a difference in the future. If they print a new Jace named "emo kid, master of hoodies" for example, he'd still fall subject to the Planeswalker rule because his type line would still be "Planeswalker - Jace"

But yes, with legendary cards all that matters is the full English name.

Thank you. I watched as I made the mistake of having them both on the field and putting counters on everything then watching them pull a board clear... Most depressing moment of my life

+1 for the fact that we need a jace print with the name of "Emo Kid, Master of Hoodies".  Not only my fav walker, but fav apparel as well.  Someone send this to MaRo ASAP!
