Title: Undying
Post by: Dywolf on March 27, 2012, 09:11:47 PM
Hi! I don't reall understand the undying mechanic ... If i have a your wolf 1/1 and someone tragic slip it .. Does it comeback with undying since its a negative counter ?

If I have a yourwolf and a immerwolf does it comeback since its + 1/1? Since immerwolf isn't a counter ..

What is a counter exactly ? Thanks a lot

The +1 from immer wolf is just a bonus. It would still come back as a 2/2. Tragic slip only hits it once so it would still come back as a 2/2. It says counter in the text than it's a counter if not its just a bonus. I hope that helps.

Think of a counter as a seperate entity attached to the creature like an equipment or enchantment.  Other cards like Immerwolf just give cards a static bonus that is completely different than a counter and would have no effect on undying.

If my youg wolf is a 1/1 and someone curse of death holds it ... It's die so it comeback as a 2/2 minus 1/1 so it's still a 1/1 right ? God this is confusing ...

If my {young wolf} is a 1/1 and someone {curse of death hold}'s YOU ... It dies so it comes back as a 1/1 with a +1/+1 counter on it with -1/-1 so it's still a 1/1? right! God this is confusing ...

Right

For counters, some people like to use dice, as it's easy to read and easy to add, subtract what is needed. Bonuses don't get counted on these dice tho, you have to remember that part.
Personally I use a heap of counters that could be from a school supplies. (if anyone knows what tiddlywinks is, pretty much them.)

Glass beads from craft stores are dirt cheap and you can get some nice colors too.  Get the semi-flattened ones and you can use them as tokens.

Everybody loves the glass beads! I use white for +1, black for -1. And I'm picky so I only use actual tokens from WOTC

We do all the counters and bonus in our heads (except for {Lumberknot} then we use a sticky note. For tokens we either use cards from a different deck we are not using face down and just flip the card that created token if its just 1

Whoa!  Seriously, glass beads are like $2 for 50 or something!  even pennies work.

All in your head? Jeez either your playgroup has idetic memory or your games don't have much going on in the way of counters

Whoa! Seriously, memory is like $0.00 for infinite or something!
Lol no its completely easy to remember. Most of our decks dont get alot of bonuses. the most would be my zombie deck which can get up to +6 with undying black micky and 4 captains. That and we attack we dont say the name we just "I'll swing with a 6/4." and tap said 6/4 so we alwaya remember what they are

Well, if you have infinite memory then I guess it's not a problem. I only have some much room, even after the neural implant.

Does {grafdigger's cage} negate the undying effect?

Yup undying is useless when the cage is on the board.

My friends and I use dice for counters, turned over cards from other decks for tokens, and we are all either math teachers or engineers so we do the mental math. I guess I've taken it for granted that the mental math isn't too challenging when you have 4 other people in the room who can compute at the same level as you and call you a f****** idiot when you mess up the math. 😝

But what we do that most other people probably don't do is that when someone exiles something you control, we practice are gambit skills and fling the card at them. They hold onto it until it can come back such as with an {oblivion ring} and the like.

If you have dice, math shouldn't be mind-blowing.
