Title: Touchy Subject: Fox News
Post by: Kaworu, the Fifth Child on February 05, 2014, 06:25:26 PM
So what do you guys think about it? Credible or not, etc.
I vote not, they're not trustworthy. Evidenced mainly by the "Jesus is white because Santa is white" report 😒

Please. Who do you find credible? Msnbc? I hope not.

Fox had plenty of credible reports just like any other news media. The media never gives you the full story. So easy to find stories that mainstream media brushes over and if you actually know about it it's like wtf?? Most have an agenda and report as such.

I find people who bash fox but listen to other mainstream media funny as the same if not more can be said of whichever other mainstream source you adhere to.

I wish there was unbiased news programming these days.

It's very hard to come by.

If anyone knows of any, please let me know. It would be much appreciated.

NPR and BBC for me.
This. Fox and other mainstream media groups are getting their funding from one end of the political spectrum or another.

Fox just pisses me off because of their sweeping generalizations of social minorities for the sake of emphasizing their own ignorant, ages-old traditional mindsets
These for me as well. :) Mainly NPR though.

NPR is my choice, then BBC.

NPR presents arguments for both conservative and liberal stand points for issues and call out questions to people they are interviewing.

Fox and all that junk is just junk. I mean Bill O Reilly? Really?

NPR
Agreed. I enjoy hearing both sides of the story as unbiased as possible. I'm sick of the dishonesty and manipulation by mainstream media.

There's a couple other independent sources I enjoy.

I watch Conan o Brian as first pick ;)

@Ertai certain newspapers are unbiased, and Time is pretty unbiased from what I've read.

As someone who's not American and not privy to things like cable television (called Foxtel here in Australia [and no, they're not affiliated]), I don't get much exposure to mainstream media.

However, I'm one of the many thousands who were enraged at the accusations made by Fox News regarding the Mass Effect trilogy when the original title was released. The presenters were uniformly and relentlessly rude, misinformed and judgmental of something they clearly did not understand. The representative from BioWare couldn't get a word in to explain or defend the game cause Fox News had their presenters jump down his throat.

Like every other gamer who followed that story after that debacle, I was disappointed when all they did was say sorry after playing the game.

In short, I don't find Fox News credible in the slightest from my limited experience. From what I've heard about them, they seem like the mainstream media equivalent of Westboro Baptist Church.

There is literally an entire page on Wikipedia dedicated to Fox News controversies: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fox_News_Channel_controversies Just thought that was kind of funny.

I don't like Fox "News". Their owner, Rupert Murdoch, literally tells the station what version of the news they will report (as explored in The Loudest Voice in the Room http://www.amazon.com/The-Loudest-Voice-Room-News/dp/0812992857) and they seem to do all that they can to spite the current administration, including creating scandals.

A clip to leave you with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfCBurnHCh8 This is Jon Stewart's introduction in the Rumble in the Well Air-Conditioned Auditorium. His famous "Bull.poo. Mountain" speech.

My general rule: any news source that calls themselves "fair and balanced" is the complete opposite. If it were true, you wouldn't have to remind people of the fact.

Fox bashing has its place, but guaranteed those who do it don't watch the network. OF COURSE you'll hate Fox and people like O'Rielly if you all you see from it is through satire like Jon Stewart.

NPR is a little too... artsy a news outlet for me.

Foreign news, like the BBC to a U.S. citizen, is definitely a valuable source because for the most part they don't have an agenda invested enough in any side of a debate or event to really be biased.

Subscription to only a single source is an irresponsible thing for someone to do if they want to consider themselves informed on issues.

And for the record, O'Rielly did better than I expected in that debate with Stewart. Stewart escapes to humor and appeal to the crowd way too often.
