I'm very new at the game but like to know what cards to avoid in your deck if your builder a deck from Theros and born of the gods, in the prerelease l attended l played B/R combo I've posted my deck in my decks . I want to make it 60 so any info would be great
Just from my experience, when I taught my friends to play, I started them off with cards they just thought looked cool, then the more we played the more their style developed and they were better able to pick cards that suited them.
I think the cards you use are all dependent on the way you want to play, but that's just me.

The advice I was given when starting out, was to pick a couple awesome cards that you want to play, and build the deck around them. Every time you do it you'll get a little better and better. Keep in mind that not every deck is gonna be awesome, in fact many won't even be as good as trash. Keep at it.
Had to bring this back because I was thinking about this today. Does anyone else see pieces of themselves that identify with the colors? Like I can see at times when I'm white, blue, red, or black, yet I can't identify with green. That's what always hold me back when I have amazing green cards. I just can't connect with the color and it's a struggle for me. Anyone else have this problem, or am I just looking too much into this game?
I can't play blue without white in a deck and I can't play green with white. But I can play both Green and white seperately. I also can't play red without blue or black without white. Overall, White is my favourite colour to play in magic

Not at all. That's honestly how I play the game is through the connection of the colors. I think it actually allows the player more in depth plays and also allows the player to learn more about him/her self as well. Sometimes a card game can be more than just that. It can also be a way to help you learn who you are.

I agree with this. However, I feel like it helps me get better at the game to learn to play colors/deck I'm not used to playing. It takes more thinking and more understanding of how the deck works.
Here's what I do.
If you have a play group. You usually have a friend with that one card or that one deck that gives you a good thorough thrashing.
I'll take my deck. See what I have that works against that one deck. Then see what I can use Vs. what I like and find a place in between.
Eventually after deconstructing your deck a few times to make it better and better you'll learn what cards you love in your deck, your play style, and what you're ready to take on.
It helps you constantly think of strategies/plays that you can use that you know will work vs what you've done that didn't work.
For Theros cards that I use in my decks.
{Gray Merchant of Asphodel}, {Disciple of Phenax} {lash of the whip} {Pharika's cure} are some of my favorites.
Just keep in mind the cards that you know you want, and what you know goes with those
(For instance, {Fencing Ace} + {Ethereal Armor} is always a fun combo)
Or {baleful eidolon} + {gift of immortality}
Use the Internet for combos and as a place to find cards you never knew about.
Use the database on here to check the expansions for specific colors. And what you'd like to get.

I usually build decks that hold a combination of White, Red or Black. I avoid Blue cause its underhanded play style puts me off. Same for Green. While I love ramp and pump, I can't play it cause it doesn't feel right.
