My opponent is attacking me for 4 damage, i choose a 1/1 creature to block, then play {Smite} to destroy his blocked creature. He is arguing that even tho i destroyed his creature, my 1/1 died. Is this the case, or does my creature stay?
The creature can live. You declare blocks, now he is blocked, then at end of block step(before damage can happen) you smite it. So you live

If you cast smite before the deal damage step, your creature lives.
