Title: Hipster Brew: GW Heroic Edition
Post by: Galabranth on January 26, 2014, 08:32:44 AM
So I've noticed people prefer RW Heroic or UW Heroic over GW Heroic. Why is this so? Lets step it up GW players.

Al's GW Heroic

60 cards, 0 sideboard

9 {Forest}
4 {Selesnya Guildgate}
11 {Plains}

24 lands

3 {Favored Hoplite}
3 {Fabled Hero}
2 {Observant Alseid}
2 {Wingsteed Rider}

10 creatures

4 {Gods Willing}
3 {Phytoburst}
1 {Ajani, Caller of the Pride}
4 {Giant Growth}
4 {Selesnya Charm}
4 {Unflinching Courage}
4 {Ordeal of Heliod}
2 {Spear of Heliod}

26 other spells

Sideboard

Notes:
White heroic creatures w/ Green heroic enablers

By the way, could anyone recommend sideboard material? I would also appreciate it if someone could give suggestions on converting this to modern.

You're going to want more protection bc 4 copies of {Gods Willing} ain't enough since removal now is just insane. So add some {Rangers Guiles} also SB stuff for your weaker matchups. This deck probably is not good to control. So side in stuff like {Ready // Willing} or {Rootborn Defenses} also maybe even try {Bioshift}! :P

Lastly this won't be a modern deck there's so much removal in modern that this is way to slow to be Aggro and way to small to be midrange plus modern has 1 mana instant sipped kill spells and even a 0 mana one {Slaughter Pact} :(

think you need more than 10 creatures. you gonna have hands full of pants and no one to target. if you want to go green white heroic, what about {hero of leina tower}? pay x and put x counters on her. maybe {centaur battlemaster}. maybe {noble quarry} because her bestow is a heroic trigger but it seems expensive.

Definitely more anti removal

That's what pissed me off about heroic:

They can choose to respond that triggering.

Tricks are out the window!

With BoG - green does get the 2 mana indestructible instant, so there is some love

I am going to run GW heroic when BNG comes out. I suggest {Mortal's Resolve} for anti-board wipe, and {Setessan Oathsworn}. I am going to run a more enchantment centric version with {Boon Satyr}, {Hero of Iroas}, {Alpha Authority}, {Ethereal Armor}, and {Eidolon of Countless Battles}.

Is it a good invesment if I do put in {Boon Satyr}? I'm not sure what to replace. What are other anti removal spells?

{Boon Satyr} is amazing and with {Ajani, Caller of Pride}, ends SO many games. I'd add three, and take out 2 {Spear of Heliod}s and a {Phytoburst}. As for anti-removal, wait for BNG and get {Mortal's Resolve}, the thing triggers heroic, and gives indestructibility.

I never realized how volatile Boon Satyr was. Problem is Ajani's are hard to get since usually there's none at my lgs and I only have one copy. By the way, isn't Spear of Heliod useful against Madcap Skills shenanigans and other big creatures?

EDIT: Damn, everywhere I look there are no Ethereal Armors to be seen.

Ajani might be hard to get, but he is worth it. A lot of times, dropping him and using the neg wins games. As for the {Spear of Heliod}, yes it is helpful, but this deck should be aggro so you can beat them before they board wipe. If you have problems with big creatures, use {Selesnya Charm} to exile them, or {Unflinching Courage} to gain enough life that it doesn't matter if they hit you. I hope all this helps :)

Believe me it does help. I wish I could give you a +1/+1 counter (get it? Heroic karma? Gaha ok nvmd)  but I still need a few more posts.

So basically I don't need to touch anything yet other than the Boon Satyr addition you mentioned until BNG gets released? I don't know what to take out for {Alpha Authority} and {Mutant's Prey} (removal) and according to a prev poster I need more creatures. :)

I put in {Mutant's Prey} and {Fleecemane Lion}s. The Mutant's Prey is epic. {Boros Reckoner}? {Fabled Hero} with {Unflinching Courage} + Mutant's Prey. And {Alpha Authority} is great against {Detention Sphere}s. The deck beats Izzet and RDW by a close range. Its weak to more removal heavy decks so I guess you've got to sideboard in Brave The Elements.

{Ready /// willing}

Answers to removal

Drop phytoburst

You have Selesnya charm for damage increase and at sorcery speed, it's not really a trick (phyto burst), perhaps {bioshift} as its a one drop and targets two creatures of yours

But isn't phytoburst great with a fabled hero + unflinching courage?

Sounds fun, but I feel like an instant would be better there. But that's me, my meta would remove the fabled as soon as he landed or at the idea of unflinching courage could resolve on it

Instants huh... what if I splash red?

Oh yeah! Can any of you give advice on splashing red? I'm liking {Anax and Cymede} and {Akroan Crusader}.

If you splash red boros charm is a beast

Is it a good idea to put in {Anax and Cymede} and {Akroan Crusader}? I'll try to get copies of {Boros Charm} somwhere. If I put the charm, what should I take out to replace it? (Man I wish I could like your posts. So speed much amaze.)

EDIT: Making a Naya is absolutely horrible. Sometimes you get the perfect hands and sometimes the land balance is tough.
