Title: Laptop investment help
Post by: Immersabilis on January 24, 2014, 02:11:49 PM

I'm looking to buy a new laptop soon, and I'm not sure what to get exactly. I want it to be good at the day to day stuff of course but I want it to be a great gaming laptop as well, not one of the $2,000 ones but something between $800 and maybe $1,200.
Intel i7 preferably with 6-8gb of ram so gaming and multi tasking is relatively smooth.
I'm an Asus fan and am almost set on buying one but I'd like opinions on other brands and such, maybe something would be better or something. Thanks for the help btw

Do you mean the G750?
That's been open in my tabs for days just so I can drool over it. But I'm not not ready to put $2,000+ into a laptop just yet. It was crafted by the gods though for sure, their gift to mankind

Don't buy one from a box store or their website. Full of bloat ware.

Buy from a good online retailer. Also MSI is a top brand to consider for high end computers and good prices and warranties.

Don't invest a lot. There's no point dropping $1200 on a nice laptop. My advice, spend a little for laptop and build a nice desktop for $1000 or so.

To Nighthawk, it's not full of any bloated anything. It has some of the best hardware available for laptops.

Screw online crap, it's putting physical stores out of business, and for the fat and lazy that may be a dream, but support your local stores!!!

Btw, I bought the G73 3-4 years ago and it's still one of the best gaming laptops.

I7 processor
8gb ram
1tb HDD
Nvidea Gforce 67 something graphics card
And a huge cooling system which makes the gaming experience amazing and won't slow you down by overheating.

Seriously.

Yes G750. Model: G750JW-DB71 SKU: 9560016 Customer Rating:
  4.3  (9 customer reviews)

Bestbuy.com. Type the sku in. 1299$

The best you can get IMO.

Don't let Alienware fool you. It's terrible.

No. The G75. It's like 1200$ at best buy.

To be fair, it's probably a 1st gen sandy bridge i7 with a 670M, but that's still not terrible. For $1200, you can build a much better desktop, if that's your thing.

I'm not going to argue with you there, you can build a better desktop, but as far as stock laptops, this is great. Plus you can't carry around desktops without a hassle.

I mean, you could build off of a Mini-ITX board, but that's not really that feasible :P

Either way. I have that. The G750 is probably the best out there, but HP makes a decent budget laptop. It's got a quad core A10 in it with a decent Radeon graphics card, I think I bought it for like 650$.

I'm not an Alienware fan at all
My friend has the g750jw
But the g750jh is so tantalizing  (:
I didn't know the JW was on bestbuy, I'd been looking at it and others on the asus website
I might go for that then haha

Thank you guys for the help though, and I'm glad someone confirmed my thoughts about getting the asus (:
I've heard that Lenovo is good for gaming from a friend but I'm not into that brand as it's kinda foreign to me and I don't know it well

You wont be disappointed. Asus has produced some of the best motherboards since creation. Purely speculation of course, but I've used it for pretty much the most graphics intense software and video games there is and it ran like a breeze.

I would recommend getting at least the 1 or 2 year Geek Squad Protection. Maybe not the Accidental Handlibg, if you're good with your things you should be fine. Though just in case of any problems with anything they will replace the computer for free! :)

I love to support local stores but if you can't get something at one, you have to go elsewhere. Box stores don't sell MSI laptops which are some of the top ones for gaming, etc.

Also if you find it necessary to ping neg karma just for disagreeing with someones opinion then you are missing the point of the karma system.

There is absolutely no point to the karma system.

They say it's to tell the person what you felt about the post. They said if you don't like someone's post the neg button is there.

I didn't like what you had to say so I said my opinion instead of negging you and not even protest. If you did not like my post you're more than welcome to neg my post. For I do not care sir.

In my honest opinion, it does more harm then good. I guess some people just make my post for valid.

I call a lie on that one. You absolutely did neg his post. Mods can see who gives karma.

I said I did.

I apologize for not really being clear.

I meant I negged you and said something rather than just negging you and not explaining why.

I have a Lenovo laptop and it works great for school and gaming. I find Lenovo to be pretty darn good.
