Title: Spear of heliod vs extort
Post by: Master Vorzwick on January 21, 2014, 02:52:18 AM
So I have spear of heliod on board and I'm going against a deck that has creatures with extort. My opponent casts a creature spell and extorts me with another creature already on board. Can I activate the spear of heliod and destroy the creature that was used to extort me, or does it not work since extort says " looses life" and not "deals damage"?

It does not work for 2(?) reasons

1.) Loss of life is not damage

2.) The creature was not what dealt the damage. If it said "this creature deals 1 damage to each opponent and you gain life equal to the life lost this way" it would work
