Title: Battle of the Commanders!
Post by: Agrus Kos, Enforcer of Truth on January 19, 2014, 03:08:48 PM
Who is a better commander for token EDH, {Rhys the Redeemed} or {Trostani, Selesnya's Voice}.

Definitely Rhys.

Depends

{Test of Endurance} and {Felidar Sovereign} are better with Trostani, but an Aggro tokens would be Rhys, Trostani is more midrange

I use Trosti

Riis is cool but he's so whimpy you end up having to resummon for mucho money

Trosti is critical for those colors as she gives you life and is a good wall.

Plus when you ultimate  {Ajani Goldmane} and populate while she's out and has {illusionist bracers} (or Riis has them with her out): life gain is ridiculous. I've gotten 14x avatar tokens with 168k/168k

Needless to say I won that game ;)

Neither, it's Riku of the Two Reflections :P
Dude poops tokens out of non-token spells, copies token producers AND lets you play Blue
Yes, he also gives you access to Kiki, but you lose {W} which has a lot of token awesomeness. Like {Rhys the Redeemed}, {Trostani, Selesnya's Voice}, {Advent of the Wurm}, {Armada Wurm}, {Ajani, Caller of the Pride}....

 {Krenko, Mob Boss} says hello. Anyone want goblins?

I'm extremely happy with {Ulasht the Hate Seed} as my token commander. Who needs white token soldiers and knights when you can have red token elementals, dragons, goblins, and hellions!

And there's nothing I love doing more with my token deck than having {Parallel Lives} and/or {Doubling Season} out and casting {Hellion Eruprion}, and copying it a bunch of times with {Wort, the Raidmother} conspiring and {Reverberate} effects. Surprise! It's a few hundred hellions out of nowhere!

Access to doubling season, parallel lives, copying a kicked rite of replication targeting avenger of zendikar/craterhoof behemoth/palinchron....

Dare I say... Worldgorger dragon? Hahahaha

{Thousand-Year Elixir}, {Dual Nature}, {Seeker of Skybreak}, {Llanowar Mentor} (Or just {Llanowar Elves}), Rhys. Play Elixir and Dual Nature, play your Mentor (or just Llanowar Elves) and Seeker and Rhys. Make some Llanowar Elves tokens you can tap for mana, use your Seeker to untap Rhys. Make sure to have some big tokens as well, though. You can replace Elixir with {Concordant Crossroads}, etc.

At best a four card combo is a little flimsy.  Too easy to disrupt.  I do like reading about combos though.  My mind is not sharp enough to pick up on any combos requiring more than 2 cards.  LOL

Anywho...plus one for the combo!

Oh I love Johnny Combos, and yeah, they're really hard to come across.

Combo Corner is probably my favorite thing on the internet.

Maybe, but now anyone with a Rhy deck (who has read this) has to toss that in there, just because all the cards in there have insane synergy with him on their own, and if you happen to go infinite, then that's just a plus side!

Any of the untap effects, though the only one I can think of that would allow infinite is in the wrong colors: {Intruder Alarm}

Here's a list of permanents/low cost spells that untap all or all certain permanents/creatures

  {Awakening} {Blinkmoth Infusion} {Call to Glory}  {Faces of the Past} {Mobilize} {Murkfiend Liege} {Merrow Commerce} {Patron of the Orochi} {Prophet of Kruphix} {Rally the Troops} {Reveille Squad} {Roar of the Kha} {Seedborn Muse} {Sky Hussar} {To Arms!} {Unwinding Clock} {Village Bell-Ringer} {Vitalize} {Copperhorn Scout}
