I remember seeing Jackson at Comic-Con discussing his path to a Halo movie and that it was difficult to get the go-ahead (i think because the budget was immense)
But this may in fact already be beyond that point. I anticipate a flop, to be perfectly honest
ohhh, i hope this goes through cause it would be amazing to see.
And Hasbro has its finger in the pie now too so more than just the film studio is behind this
ohhh yea. i hope they follow one of the planeswalkers like elspeth or alara. which one would you want them to follow and why?
It'll be poo poo
who.
I just know it's gonna be bad. I hope it's good, but I know...

Same. That's the stigma of adapting an entity to the big screen that doesn't have a central character(s). Look at the Final Fantasy (Spirit Within?) movie. No recognizable characters and it was garbage.
Special effects outlet (like magic and monsters) + fanbase = easy excuse to pump out cgi garbage and make a quick buck (or million bucks)

They should be forced to watch the Dungeons and Dragons movie a few hundred times and then reassess whether they still want to do this or not.
Seriously though I want this! Even if they mess up the history of the planes that BotGs trailer was epic!!!
D'oh! Apologies to Rasser. I did not see his thread before posting. Rookie mistake

Been there done that 😩
Reading the article, I love how it says 'on the scale of Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings.
You know how they should do this. Follow the life of one planeswalker per movie, eventually meeting up to fight those eldrazi.
I dunno, I feel like it is going to suck, but if Fox follows lore and everything. I will be happy. Just don't botch it up Fox, please. :)
I really like the movie, but as everyone else feels, I think it will be screwed up.
We should all see it opening day.

MaRo once mentioned a possibility of a magic movie that focuses on planeswalkers. Maybe something that focuses around Ajani, jace, Liliana, Chandra, and Garruk?

Honestly, and don't come at me with pitchforks, fox should sell it to Disney and Disney should sick ILM and LucasArts on it. Then we would see real Magic!
I agree. I think Disney (especially when they spend a large amount of money on something) tends to treat their projects seriously. The amount of world building and creature design a MtG would take, it would be better suited in the hands of someone with the funds. Not that Fox lacks funds. Just not as much as Disney.

Me three, if only they saw this.
I hope it centers around the war with Urza. It'll still suck, but at least I'll be in it.
Will it be animated or actual real actors?

Probably need to be live action to warrent a good special effects team and not get B classed immediately
Ya good point. And tbh as a magic player who doesn't know much of magics history I'm so pumped for this! When do you think that it'll be released? (Obviously in awhile but still)
Quote from: Noblellama on January 14, 2014, 04:09:45 PM
I am thinking late 2015 early 2016
If they are smart they will aim it around a big expansion release.
Though I hope this is not the case for us, from a marketing view aiming for magic's 25th year but that would not be until 2018
Damn but the 25th anniversary does seem appropriate but like you I hope it's much sooner lol

they didn't even consult with the author on that one. Oh, and the article says there consulting with hasbro exec's...I hope that means the wizards department...

We don't talk about that... It was too tragic... T.T
What do you mean? They only cut out a third of the story, all of the details, every scrap of character development and then still managed to butcher it more...

Sadly...no. Read the book and then watch the movie, then you'll know what I mean.

I have. It left a bad taste in my mouth.
If this becomes a thing. Why not just start at the beginning. With Urza and Bolas and all the world shaping Planeswalkers. Then they have it set up for ENDLESS sequels following pretty much EVERY set in Magic history. Each movie will focus on a particular cycle. Or plane perhaps. And the events that have unfolded on those planes.
Quote from: Noblellama on January 15, 2014, 01:19:38 AM
You have to either pick bolas and the 20,000 years ago to set up for a huge arc or thran 8,000 years ago to set up for Yawgmoth...
Or. Just make like the Hobbit
10% from the main source material
80% outlandish add-on trash
10% decent add-on shenanigans
