I {Detention Sphere} an Elspeth then next turn they {Detention Sphere} my D Sphere. What happens?

You cannot D Sphere D Spheres, read the card ;)

They turn back to their card and read the {detention sphere}. Then they feel silly because it says very specifically that it cant target cards named {detention sphere}.

They would either choose to exile something else or nothing at all, since the card says "may exile"

For {Oblivion Ring} this is true, but in this instance {Detention Sphere} cannot target itself in the first place

Yeah. I think detention sphere will be confusingly overpowered if it could do that... LOL
