Title: Money value: 1 box of MMS VS 2 boxes of BotG
Post by: Thetrufflehunter on January 12, 2014, 11:18:50 PM
So I have about $200 store credit at card kingdom my end goal is to get money to pay for a trip (there is a Boy Scout jamboree in japan in 2015, which costs $5000. I have to pay 1/2 of that). Which would be more profitable: 1 box of modern masters which I can get for $280 (so I'm almost there) or 2 boxes of born of the gods, which I can preorder for $108 each, and sell the cards at the high release value before the {plummet}?

Modern masters: 0 Born of the gods: 4 Sell the credit: 1

It really depends on what you pull with MM, so I would honestly go with BNG for value.

I would see if you could sell your store credit to someone and then you will only need $50 more.

I cannot read thought you said $500. I didn't see that extra zero. That's why I thought all you need was $50 more. Good luck with the car washes and candy bar sales.

I still would say sell the credit. Who knows what you will get and if you will be able to sell the stuff.

Born of the Gods, for sure. All of those cards will have stupidly high value for a short time until they've been out for a while, so you could actually profit from the sale of the cards.

I have opened modern masters and I opened a bob and I'm still not sure if I made my money back. And considering ashiok used to be 26 and now he's 5, I'd preorder

If you really need to scrape together every cent, I would sell the credit since it's no risk. If you're willing to risk it/want to open packs (because who doesn't?) then 2 BNG is probably the better choice since you have a higher chance to get more money rares.

Statistically the chance of getting any specific mythic, including as a foil, in 1 MMA box is 26.4%. Those are pretty small odds in my opinion.

Not challenging but I would love to see the probability formula for this!! (I want crunch numbers too)

I would caution against mma, of the boxes Moneekah and I opened one more than payed for itself (goyf, foil {glen elendra archmage} and foil {pact of negation}) but as a whole some boxes were very disappointing and the inflated price means you'll end up making less.
A lot of the rares in this set have also dropped significantly from where they were.

The hard part I see is selling the cards. Most people will not pay full price(what card shops charge) Also do you have the people near by that will buy them or eBay. If eBay they take a cut and you have to have good feed back in the thousands or your selling it discounted. That's why I suggested to just sell the credit.

And if you cannot sell the credit get the boxes and do a booster draft or sealed of BoG and charge $3-4 a pack to make your money back on the boxes.

The national Scout jamboree is a gathering, or jamboree of thousands of members of the Boy Scouts of America, usually held every four years and organized by the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Referred to as "the Jamboree", "Jambo", or NSJ, Scouts from all over the nation and world have the opportunity to attend. They are considered to be one of several unique experiences that the Boy Scouts of America offers.
