Title: Why is this expensive?
Post by: Galabranth on January 08, 2014, 05:47:06 AM
{Loxodon Smiter}

I'm not sure how great this card is. Just bought it for gw. The three-drop 4/4 is great, but how does his ability work? Not much decks use discard now. :/

Expensive? He's like two bucks.

He's not only a 4/4 for 3, but he can't be countered. Throwing him on the battlefield for free sometimes is nice too, but really just a good beater vs control.

Edit: Also, this question should be in discussion, not rules!

Yeah bro it's an awesome card. Just wondering. Can {tome scour} cause this guy to be put on the battle field or does it have to make it to your hand?

Now this needs to be in the rules, but in a new thread..

But to answer your question, it will go to the graveyard, discarding requires you to put a card from your hand into the graveyard, not from your library to your graveyard.

Another reason it's great is if your first turn starts with {Elvish Mystic}, you could play him turn 2. Turn 3 you {Unflinching Courage} him, and a 6/6 trample Lifelinker turn 3 can be just too fast for a lot of people to recuperate

This card still dies right? It only says if you discard him put it into the battle field. Once on the battlefield if it's delt lethal damage it dies right?

Yes it still does die. The good part of the card is not the discard, but rather an uncounterable 4/4 for only 3 converted mana cost. Once you play with him more you will realize he's turn 2 and turn 3 awesome sauce.

Uncounterable is good against early game Esper and Azorius Control while a heafty 4/4 body is good vs Aggro and Control

The fact that he can't be {thoughtseize}d is nice, too.

Well, you CAN, but then, youcould also not play cards from Homelands from here on out. Either way you hate yourself afterwards. :P

Unless they had something out that could kill them that turn... Like they are at 1 life with  {Carnival of Souls} on their battlefield and you thoughtseize their smiter...
