Has anyone else seen the new card {waste not} apparently in m15? What do you think? I like the idea of a mainly black discard deck with red for chandra/rakdos's return/magma jet and a bit of white for chained to the rocks to deal with thassa. What do you guys think?

Awesomeness!! Also strictly BR you deal with Thassa with your {Thoughtseizes}!! Also no magma jet always go {Lightning Strike}!!!
{Sire of Insanity} would be pretty brutal

I know right?!!!
My mate who runs a Grixis Zombie Commander deck has dubbed the card "Grave Bounty" after {Primeval Bounty}. XD
Waste Not + {Nekusar, the Mind Razer} + Wheel effect = holy value, Batman!
I'm getting a playset... Mainly because I was one of thousands that helped design it...
Its really cool and I want it to be a top tier deck, but it will all depend on what comes out in BNG, JOU and M15.
That's that community created card wizards did last year isn't it?
Yes it is

Does anyone think this card will be good in modern?

Hmm??
Well we have {Relentless Rats}, {Thoughtseize}, {Inquisition of Kozilek}, {Liliana of the Veil}, {Liliana's Caress}, {Nezumi Shortfang}, and {Quest for the Nihil Stone} for starters. Add some wraths, maybe a {Vampire Nighthawk} or 7... 😁jk
This card does seem to have a ton of potential though.
I think it definitely has poor matchups, I don't think waste not will create a top 8, but I think it will be played

Turning a {Thoughtseize} into a cantrip is pretty damn impressive though. I like the card a lot. The cost is very aggressive and it begs to be built around.

I agree. It's powerful. We can't say for sure yet, but I know it would be not so good against Reanimator based strategy, flashback Delver, or a more graveyard {Birthing Pod} concept. But waiting to Thoughtsieze an opponent before turn 1 is bad just for the extra ability from Waste Not, by then their Geist, Delver, Pod or lock may already be on the board. But only time will tell :)

Just so people are aware, 8rack and Pox are modern decks already, this would give them a bit more for the toolbox though.

This is the reason why it won't see competitive play, unless there is a deck devoted entirely to squeezing value out of this card.

us there a way to make a deck that wins by giving the opponent {waste not} and then casting {one with nothing}? I'm going to work on one
So you donate Waste Not, then discard your hand... And let him gain mana and zombies? I don't see how that even remotely wins you the game.

How about casting {{One with nothing}} with {{Hive Mind}} out and {{Waste Not}} on the field.
Lol that's awesome!

Turn one
Swamp
{dark ritual}
{waste not}
{Thoughtseize}
Perfect!
And T2 another swamp for {Deathrite Shaman} for even bigger stuff, and you get even more buffs!

Can't the man do something nice for the person he's playing against? What happened to sportsmanship and the like?

actually, I'm going to try and find a way to make doing that realy stressful on the opponents strategy
That's it! If they were all non land non creature cards {notion thief}. Than you can use flashback, or other stuff that uses the graveyard as a resource...hmmm....
i just like turning thoughtsieze into either a cantrip or negating the life-loss with a zombie token. Does anything think this could make {disciple of phenax} standard playable?
I'd like to point out that we are discussing the viability of a card that won't even be released for another like 6 months and will be in an environment that will contain another 600 some cards that we haven't even seen yet. Even after that, RTR block will rotate and Theros-Huey standard has only had about 1/8 of the cards spoiled (Theros has been, but we haven't seen BNG, JOU, M15, Huey, Duey, Louie and M16 haven't even been mentioned.) That said, the card is probably just an EDH card, because it has been said many times that people hate land destruction and discard (or at least, having it used against them) and from that, we can guess that a Discard heavy standard isn't likely. Lastly, before Huey releases, {Thoughtsieze}, {Duress} and {Rakdos' Return} will be in standard with the card, so we couldn't see some nice interactions. I personally like it, and can't wait to have a foil!

I know we don't know the rest of standard, I'm just excited about the card :P
seems like it will be fun to play, and I'm probably going to get a foil (or 4) too.

maybe there planning on making more discard cards? Maybe a card that discards a card, and gives you some effect?
A return of the madness mechanic?

Maybe. But it's only whenever an opponent discards.

We might see Fateseal in this set? Also essentially Fateseal is better than scry. You can scry your opponent or you.
