Title: Trample + Deathtouch
Post by: DylanW18 on January 07, 2014, 01:28:45 AM
I basically need only level 1 Judges answering this, I've asked before and gotten different answers from judges at my LGS.

Do they only deal 1 to the creature or do they deal enough to kill their toughness? There is evidence for both sides

For the 7,000th time deathtouch makes "lethal" become 1 regardless of the characterisitics of the defending creature. The rest can trample. This is in the FAQ because this is literally asked on a monthly basis.

I stand corrected. I was told trample plus deathtouch was added to FAQ. Time to edit it.

Fixed it. Thanks for inadvertently pointing that out.

I haven't read it yet Kaleo, but I've researched and you're correct. The rules change at m11 made this possible, and before m11, it was not this way. If you haven't written that, please write it in so that people who have been told multiple answers, such as myself, know why

Thank you! And +1!

Maybe a post saying how trample and deathtouch work together should be stickied to discourage repeat questions.

That's what the FAQ is for. And now it's in the FAQ.

But who honestly reads that? xD

I still confused. i have a 4/4 with death touch and my opponent has a 6/6 trample. I block with the 4/4 cant i soak up 4 of those power points. The way it sound to me is, if i block a trample with deathtouch it would only deal one damage and i get the rest. I understand this has been discussed many times, i still dont get it

No, they're talking about deathtouch and trample together. Separately, like blocking a trample with a lower P/T deathtouch, would happen exactly as you said.

Thanks man, sometimes reading wallpost and tricky situtations gets confusing. I understand now. Death touch with trample is a sick combination.

If a creature has deathtouch and trample, the attacker can choose to assign as much or little damage to each blocking creature as they want. Since a single point will kill any non-indestructible creature, you can kill any/all blocking creatures unless they block with more creatures than your creature has power.
