Title: 2hg format
Post by: Jer123amy on January 06, 2014, 05:18:12 PM
I have a question about playing havoc festival in 2 headed giant format.   If my opponents life is 20 and I play a {havoc festival}, how many total lives do they lose since it says each players upkeep. And can you explain why the lives would be lost in2 headed giant.  Thank you

curly brackets or book icon to link cards please. -Kaleo

Life not lives.

In THG they share a life total and their phases. This means it only hits for 10 in your example on their next upkeep. However effects that say damage(or life loss effects) each opponent like {debt to the deathless} hit twice as hard because there are two opponents to hit.

Now that I have been able to ready the wording on {havoc festival} through the link I can see that it hits twice. Ruling coming in a sec...

10/1/2012   In a Two-Headed Giant game, the last ability triggers for each player. Any life loss is applied to the team's life total. For example, if the team has 30 life, the first ability will cause the player (and thus the team) to lose 15 life and then the second ability will cause the other player (and thus the team) to lose 8 life. The team will end up having 7 life.

So it does hit each player.
Yes because of the wording of "that player" on the card. Whenever it specifies a player or players without actually targeting one then it hits twice.

So your first answer is wrong, right?  You have two different answers.
Yes as my second response states.

Thank you. Getting ready for Friday was hoping it hit both.

If each players upkeep is simultaneous then wouldn't it hit for 10 to each player.

Sorry not trying to be a pain, just have some players where I play that take it too serious. Need to explain to them about ruling and where ruling came from.

The trigger occurs at the same time, but one has to resolve before the second can, I believe.

Correct. Two triggers hit the stack. The first resolves and they lose 1/2 their life total. When the second resolves, they are now at 1/2 life, and they now lose 1/2 of that, taking them down to 1/4 of their original life total.
