If I have an {Experiment One} on the field, and it's my only creature, then I play a {Nylea God of the Hunt} (with only the Ex1, so 2 devotion including Nylea), would it evolve Ex1? This ruling came up a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure its just a matter of when the game state gets checked.
when god's are entering the battlefield they enter as creatures or not based on devotion. since your devotion was too low, nylea isn't a creature, and doesn't evolve {experiment one}. note that if your devotion later changes and {nylea, god of the hunt} becomes a creature, she isnt entering the battlefield and wont trigger evolve.

That's kind of what I thought. Thanks for the ruling.

Also, to go along with that, if you are at 5 devotion and play Nylea, she'll trigger evolve, but if Nylea herself provides the fifth devotion evolve will NOT trigger.
I was under the impression that permanents entering the BF get to count themselves towards devotion, so a god providing its own 5th would trigger all creature ETB effects.

Not all. Those that provide an ETB replacement effect, such as {Imposing Sovereign}, will not trigger if the god is providing their 5th devotion...
However, i believe that discussion is for another thread...
interesting read on it: http://www.starcitygames.com/article/27209_Circular-Logic-With-Theros-Gods.html
i really dont understand that with {imposing sovereign}. i found another article which states basically the same thing:
http://blogs.magicjudges.org/rulestips/2013/10/gods-4-devotion-and-entering-the-battlefield/
saying, if it would enter the battlefield it checks the game state as it would exist on the battlefield, but if it was on the battlefield devotion would be 5 not 4 as it states. gatherer says they enter as creatures and abilities trigger accordingly. why wouldn't the static effects trigger similarly? if its imagining itself on the battlefield, why doesnt it see itself being on the battlefield?
