What are some good staples to mono green Hydra decks?
A friend of mine wants to try and make one. Only thing I really know is you want alot of mana ramp.
I had a similar deck a while back. Evasion is a must. You need to make sure that hydra can get through. Ramp is key as well. Just make sure you don't run out of steam after you drop a cou
So things like {alpha authority} and wide trample cards are a must have?
Yes. I had a couple decent sized hydras with no evasion and my opponent would just spawn tokens to block with. Then he just came back because I ran out of steam. The cards that let creatures fight is great in mono-green.
Also, what format is this deck for?
Probably modern but not like. Über competitive I win because I went first modern.
I like UG hydra. Ramp with green and cheap unblockable cards.
I was thinking that. But we figured we would start mono color as it'd be simpler.
The problem with mono color is that you lose a lot of possible answers. It is simpler but that comes with its own risks.
Indeed. I told him run things like 4 {alpha authority} 2-4 {time to feed}
Elixir of immortality 2-4 for anti mill/shuffle/life gain as with the mana ramp he's planning on running you get hit with one {balustrade spy} half your deck is gone cuz you've grabbed all your land out
Also I was wondering if {Nylea's disciple} would be worth running along with {Karametra's Acolyte}?
I personally like the card {mistcutter hydra} for the haste.
My favorite hydra (in a casual setting) is {Protean Hydra} with something to give him the extra toughness to stay alive. (I like {Leyline of Vitality} and {Asceticism}) then anything to give trample ({Nylea, God of the Hunt} or {Rancor} work fine)
{polukranos, world eater}?

{polukranos, world eater}?
I personally left this out because I don't like {X}{X} costs.
{ savage born hydra} I know he is multicoloured, but he works well even with little mana because you can build him up later. If you happen to fall off of your mana ramp he works well
But if you're ramping, like {Karametra's Acolyte}, {Sylvan Caryatid}, etc., then Polukranos is a MUST. Forget the XX cost, he's a bomb you can ramp into by Turn 3 and people either have to deal with him or waste counters/burn/kill spells on him. Love him.
I threw together a green/red hydra deck not long ago that actually runs pretty well.
It's all about the mana ramp
{Elvish Mystic}
{Karametra's Acolyte}
{Zhur-Taa Druid}
The bombs
{Kalonian Hydra}
{Mistcutter Hydra}
{Savageborn Hydra}
{Polukranos, World Eater}
{Ruric Thar, the Unbowed}
{Akroan Colossus}
And some support
{Ghor-Clan Rampager} (just for Bloodrush)
{Bow of Nylea}
{Nylea, God of the Hunt}
If its any format, ramp a huge {Mistcutter Hydra} and then cast {Sway of Illusion} making all their monsters blue...
