Title: Casual Tournament. Round 2!
Post by: Kurama on December 29, 2013, 11:58:32 AM
Rules Below, participants listed on page 7!

For those of you who didn't see my original thread: I am hosting a wall game tourney with a casual format. To clarify my meaning of Casual: I am talking about a just for fun format, there is no banned list (with the exception of Power Nine), however I will set a loose restriction on decks. There will be no Combo decks or any sort of t1-t2-t3 win. T4 is fine as it allows for fast aggro. The idea is for all of you who decide to participate to have fun and maybe test out a brew. You do not have to own the cards for the deck, so you may run the deck through a program such as Cockatrice. Minimum deck size is 60 cards and there is no maximum deck size, all recent rules changes apply (sideboards and legend). Before the tournament begins you must post a deck list in the Casual section and label it so we all know what it is. Good Luck, but above all have fun!

Additional Rules:
If I feel that you are cheating, I reserve the right to DQ you. In addition to that, if your deck breaks the guidelines, or prevents your opponent from doing anything ({Moat}, {Stasis}), I also reserve the right to DQ you, I will not DQ once deck lists are posted, but I will based on how the games turn out. If you post a deck list, and I feel it breaks the guidelines I will ask you to change.

All DCI guidelines and rules basically apply (I.e. Unsportsmanlike Conduct, Cheating, Lying, etc.)

If you need a ruling, feel free to ask me or another person you feel is qualified to answer.

Ideally I will have one more person modding this with me, if you want to do that contact me. They will have the same power I do to DQ and answer rulings.

Good Luck!

How often will we need to be able to play? I usually don't have so much time...

Also, can we

A. Use a sideboard

B. If we're just testing a deck, make small changes between games? (Like making land base more consistent by playing 4 hallowed fountain 3 breeding pool instead of 3 hallowed fountain 4 breeding pool)

I'll sign up. Does control count as not allowing people to do things? If not, I'll play my standard 5 colour control

A: yes
B: no

Also, time limit will be usually about a week per round.

No, what I mean is lockdown cards like i mentioned before or taking an excessive amount of extra turns.

Mind looking at my deck to decide if you think it's fair? I have 2 time stretches and 2 temporal masterys in my unexpected results deck... Not sure if that counts. It's in the casual section and called "unexpected results" (no idea how to link things, sorry)

If you think it's ok, I'm in. But I may have to concede and drop out if I can't finish my matches on time :(

I'll play, not sure what I'll use.

I think a good guide is any deck that is all from the same block is fine (ok maybe not caw blade, affinity, or decks from the urza's combo winter, but otherwise).

how do you move something so that it stays at the top of the section and doesn't move down when someone makes a new topic? i think we should do that for this thread.

Sticky it. We would have to ask a mod to do it.

Could we have an amazing deck but chose to not win until turn 4?  Like Manaless dredge can pull out an insane amount of field presence turn 2, but if I didn't attack until turn 5...
I would say that still qualifies as a combo deck ;)

Title: Re: Casual Tournament: Sign Ups. 2 People needed.

Not all that much, it was just a question.

Basically you just keep an eye on games, make sure no one cheats, if you think someone is just bring it to me. You have the same powers to DQ anyone as I do for the same reasons. The other thing is just keeping an eye on the Decklists people post and make sure they aren't playing anything outside of the cards listed. You can answer any rules questions people have as well.

if they didn't you can use magiccards.info to print proxies if you want. search the card name, click on the number of proxies you want, then print, cut them out, and sleeve them in front of basic lands or anything else and done! :)

just trying to help.

Since no cards are banned - ante cards - will they exile a card (Since it sends to ante zone)?

Is kiora the crashing wave ok in my sideboard? She's the new planeswalker from born of the gods. Also, I think we need some type of ban list here. I'm thinking the legacy ban list but allowing a few more cards? I guess just looking at people's decks beforehand would work too.

I have recently received notice that Melek has to back out, in which case we will need one more player. If you know anyone who may want to play, please tell them about this tourney. If I can't get another player within the next few days I may step in and play if there are no objections.

i wouldn't object, as long as you dont dq all your opponents :P

i'll be helping watch for un-fun combos and stuff if that's ok.
Lol, yeah, if I had to play you would be the main mod for my games.

If you still want some help I can also help
Sure, if you want to.

Round One Pairings

Leatfood7 vs Spencer Addington
Mishra vs Kurama
Ekann vs Vindog
CrackaLacka vs DirtyMustachio

Time limit is until next Thursday. Play best 2 of 3. PM your opponent to set a time!
Title: Re: Casual Tournament: Round One Pairings.

Ok, so we're nearing the time limit for Round One, and no one has even started game 2. Which means I will be changing this to Single Elimination, just one game per round.

How this affects matches:

CrackaLacka v DirtyMustachio: finish g1

Vindog vs Ekann: since Ekann decided to take a game loss, I don't know how to handle this one. Ideally you two play another game and winner takes round. However if Vindog is not active in the tourney the round will go to Ekann. (Ekann: it would be helpful if you could PM him to make sure he still wants to play).

Spencer vs ieatfood: Spencer decided to resign and has not been active in the tourney. So unless he changes his mind and can play a game within the next few days the round goes to ieatfood.

Mishra and I will try to play, but I don't know where that will really end up going as of now, seeing as though he hasn't posted in our thread at all.

Finally, the moment you have all been waiting for! THE FINALS! In this final match of this tournament we will see the Fearsome Ally Commander...ieatfood7  face off against the Ruthless Gruul Warrior Vindog! Best of luck to both of you. And please note that this will be a best 2 out of 3 round.

Important Update

Due to unforseen circumstances Vindog has been DQ'd for Suspected Cheating and Altering his list. The finals will proceed with ieatfood taking on Vindog's round two opponent, CrackaLacka. You two will play best two out of three and have unlimited time (too a certain extent).

Sorta too late now, but I lost to vindog.  I guess its too late to put me back into the tournament, but for next time, shouldn't i have been back in? Or maybe not? Just curious. I don't expect/want to stop the finals now.

I did take that into account, but you were his first round opponent and I didn't know where to go if you were to get back in. I thought about having you playing CrackaLacka and the winner going on to face ieatfood but I didn't want to hold up the finals for that long. In the future I will be note careful. And I do plan on hosting future tourneys. Sorry about the screw-up regarding everything that happened. :l

It makes everything weird when someone cheats. I won four coin tosses in a row on {prenetic sliver} and was worried it would look like cheating. And twice other people had uncanny good luck and I asked them, relatively gently, if their draws were honest. They got justifiably offended and I appologized, but when the first guy who happens to have the perfect card when he needs it was stacking his deck, it cuts your trust down hard.

Regarding this whole incident in general, it really just lowered my faith in people overall. Not to sound extreme, but I am usually a very trusting person and I just kind if turned aside from what seemed like a suspicious situation because I wanted to have faith that he wasn't cheating, but the circumstances became undeniable. This is actually one of the reasons why I wanted someone to help mod this with me, because I knew they would probably see things that I overlooked.

I don't skype. I only play walls. And its impossible to catch a smart cheater on wall games, but the best defense against cheating is the realization that its dumb... We are playing for fun and pride, if you cheat, you don't get the pride at all since you know you didn't actually win.

I think that's the main reason why I wanted to believe that the whole situation was fine, is because there was nothing at stake. What could you obtain from cheating?

I cheated once, and my deck was so bad, even with the perfect(or what I thought was perfect) hand, I still got spanked. It was bad. Since then I don't do it. It's stupid and you only end up embarrassing yourself.

Gotta say, I'm pretty proud of the fact that I could beat Vindog when he was cherry picking answers that weren't even in his deck in both EDH and in Casual. (well, in edh I had him beat until he pulled an {angels grace} out of thin air, but that was to stop lethal and that's when I called him out.)

Since I can't get enough people, I will run this as a Round Robin type tourney. If you are unfamiliar with that type, it means that everyone plays everyone else, and then the players with the best records at the end play in the finals.

Round 1 Pairings
CrackaLacka vs Darkarts981
Ieatfood7 vs IntoFire
Real.zarek *BYE*

This will be a single game round.

Generally no. This is often a place for testing decks. Plus it would be impossible to know who actually owns what.

That said, if your deck is full of {black lotuses} then it is not proper for a casual tournament.

That said, if you come to the new forum, we can restart the tournament there.
