Unless they {Terminate}, {Path to Exile}, {Abrupt Decay}, {Dreadbore}, ect.

In Modern, never think you win because you have a big creature. Also, never commit to the board (which is required by {Evangel of Heliod} to build up devotion). Lastly, if the card isn't even good enough to see Standard play, the card usually isn't good enough for Modern.

Controls entire idea is to win through a big creature pretty much. And it works.
Pod, Soul Sisters, Affinity, and Merfolk commit to a board.
Archangel of Thune hardly sees any play is Standard. Tarmogoyf was a joke card for its original printing pretty much. A bunch of eggs (Chromatic Twins, Conjurer's Bauble) were never played in Standard.

In modern, work with what you have. Test it out. If it doesn't do what you wanted to and has negative feedback or is never helpful at all, don't use it. Theory and Results never actually help each other out. The new Mono U Delver Bear is bad in theory for many Modern players, but keeps proving, time and time again, that is actually something. If your plan is to use tech for your big win, I suggest don't. It doesn't work for many reasons and should just remain to be useful tech. Don't always rely on your win condition, have a back up plan. Just because a card hasn't seen play in standard, doesn't mean it isn't good. It could just be better in another format where it is more deserving to be.

Also, I'm not relying too heavily on the evangel. Notice its a two-of. I just thought it would be a fun jaw dropping play with the right cards. Maybe even a game changer. This deck has plenty of other options to win besides the evangel. Yet has the tools to use it efficiently

I would just think the amount of removal in modern would make relying on devotion to be a bit problematic. Especially as most people would say a six drop should be a guaranteed bomb a la {{Baneslayer Angel}}.

As he mentioned, he isn't going to be relying on Devotion though. If he is, then the deck will get more tools to work with. But he also isn't going to run any big devotion feeders since it isn't his goal.  And his goal with this deck isn't to make it competitive, but that should be. For him to learn properly, he should test out his deck to see what works and what doesn't. If he keeps us updated on things, we can learn the exact direction this deck is taking and help him through those means. Who knows, this deck could become a hit in the right meta. Right now, we just have a deck list and what he wants to work with. We just provide information on what exactly helps to make the deck just better. Some great 6 Drops are really on seeing play in 4 Color Gifts, Tron, or Any Gifts Package-esque decks. Baneslayer hasn't seen play as much, just like Hallowed Burial. Control uses those the best, but isn't using them now in the current online meta.

Even if he isn't going to use it as a gaurenteed bomb, it could be an allstar if he uses it properly. It could also be amazingly fun in a casual grouping for modern.

{Martyr of Sands} is also pretty good for lifegain (but it's only one trigger), especially when you can recur it with {Revillark}.

Also, as a tron player, I can confirm living end is not hilarious, especially when your tron lands get wrecked by 4 copies of {ghost quarter}, {tectonic edge}, and {fulminator mage}, especially when the mages come back to do it all over again after living end resolves.

{{Relic of Progenitus}} You don't care about your own graveyard and sure as hell don't want them getting value. REALLY helps in UWR, Pod, and Living End (the Tron v. Living End cand be one of the funniest match-ups to watch)

Would going the token route be handy or a better set up of Soul Sisters? Soul Warden+co is helpful. This could also be a place to play Auriok Champion, Kitchen Finks, Suture Priest.

If the 6 mana creature doesn't do enough, a great option would be Twilight Shepard.

Could we turn this into a token+life gain deck for the more interesting approach? Lingering Souls+ Blood Artist could be great additions if you want to diverge into this idea and another color.

Is there a way to give {ajani's pridemate} lifelink and doublestrike...and possibly flying too?

I suppose I could make it tokens. {caption of the watch} might be good here in that case
