Title: Mentors
Post by: 5/9 Turtle on December 18, 2013, 05:00:10 PM
In my English class our teacher gave us an assignment where we have to write a letter thanking and talking about mentors.

My question to this community is who are your mentors?

I learnt a lot of rules stuff from Keyeto and Kaleo.

I think you guys are missing the point of the question. Mentor here wouldn't be who's taught you the most about Magic, it'd be who's taught you the most and/or best about life.

For me...this is actually gonna sound stupid...but my Mentor is Ezio Aiditore of Assassins Creed fame. His teachings of peace, love, singularity and most of all freedom inspire me to do my best with my life. Sure I stumble time and again, and I'm not proud to say that I've fallen through the cracks more than once, but it's the Creed he taught that keeps me going and gives me the strength to carry on.

And it's people like you that make me want to go into video games, it's not just about shooting a gun into a blaze of fire, it's about the story the characters and the lessons you take away after.

Damn straight it is. +1 to you!

I enjoy games that have a bigger-picture type of story, where you take away a certain notion, thought or lesson. The Assassins Creed games are a great example of that.

Assassins Creed: Altair learns humility and strength in numbers through being taken down more than a few notches after letting arrogance infect him.

Assassins Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations and Embers: Ezio learns patience, respect, love and how to hold these things in mind whenever he does anything. For what I think is the best line in any video game ever, look up Ezio's last words.

Assassins Creed III: Connor discovers that while purposes may align, methods are what matters, and makes freedom and free will for humanity his ultimate goal.

Assassins Creed IV: Edward, like Altair, goes from selfish to selfless through turmoil and hard emotional loss, and decides that fighting for the gain of others over himself is the true way to live.

My mentor is a close friend of mine. The closest thing I've ever had to a dad actually. He taught me how to live. Without him I would be nowhere.

My mentor is probably my parents, as lame as it seems. They taught me to think outside of the proverbial box, and to always seek answers. It's no mystery why I'm drawn to Magic: the Gathering. The eternal chess match of answers and new questions.

My mentor is definitely my dad. Although that sounds really generic when I say it, I haven't see anyone else mention one of their parents directly.

realistically my dad of course, but on the topic of video games, id have to say Ephraim's courage in the face of defeat and loyalty to his friend Lyon until the bitter end with the Demon King, well, it was pretty inspiring to say the least.

I was on my way to say Ezio Auditore, hands down! Then you guys all already got there! I've found my brotherhood!

I'm a wee bit of a fan to the point of having the sigil tattooed on my neck. Pride and joy. I even got a special crafted steel Sword of Altair for Christmas from housemates. Other pride and joy.

Can't really say I have a real life role model. I'm the patriarch of my circle. Maybe Eddie Vedder.
