Title: Combo deck
Post by: Drbusta50 on March 21, 2012, 08:51:42 AM
I would like to try and build a standard combo deck, maybe w/u or R/b.  but have no ideas of any good standard combos.  Could you guys hook me up with some ideas.  Thanks

From the top of my head,
Hex proofed spirits with w/u
Growing vamps r/b
But nothing out of the ordinary comes to mind.
Someone else probably knows sonething better.

{Geist of Saint Traft} + {Sundial of the Infinite} has been pretty well talked about here.

So r u saying that if u attack and end the turn that the angel stays in play? Is that the combo?

Look at my Venser, the Infinitely Annoying deck in casual......the whole deck is combos.  A lot with {sundial of the infinite}.  For instance {glimmerpoint stag} exiles a permanent until end of turn.....when the return permanent trigger goes on the stack you use the sundial and it stays forever.  Or you can use {stonehorn dignitary} and keep using {Venser, the sojourner} +2 ability to blink him in and out to keep your opponent from attacking.  The {mimic vat} and {phantasmal image} let you keep copying these enter the BF triggers.......ohh and the sundial lets you keep the vat tokens too.

Yes Sundial has many combo uses! But be careful...I believe that if a card mentions the "end of the turn" sundial doesn't work, because it ends the turn. But if a card mentions the "end step", then sundial will work because it skips the endstep.

It still works....you want to use the dial on the end step.  The "until end step" or "until end of turn" triggers go on the stack and you use the dial to exile the triggers.  Now if you use the dial before the end step then the "until end of turn" trigger will go on the stack and resolve and a "until next end step" trigger will still resolve on the next end step since yours was skipped.

Coffee Vampire is right. You wait until the "At the beginning of the next end step" ability is put on the stack and you respond with Sundial to exile that trigger. It can't, however, affect whether or not a "until end of turn" effect ends because they only trigger during the clean-up step of the turn and you can't respond at that point.

Here's an example: I cast {Putrefax} and attack with him, using one {Giant Growth} to buff him. I let {Putrefax}'s sac ability go on the stack so I use the {Sundial of the Infinite} to exile the ability so I keep it. However, no matter when I use the Sundial, Putrefax will lose the +3/+3.

The "sac at begging of end step" is imprinted on Putrfax so you would have to sac it at the next end step.  The dial only works that way for something that gives it a one time sac trigger.

But I think you are right about the cleanup step trigger.

True. I should have just used my combo example from another thread Sneakdial: {Sneak Attack} and Sundial.

Best combo deck by far {Havengul Lich} with {heartless summoning} and {Perilious Myr} or with a {Fireball} effect with {Devil's Play} and {Priest of Urabrask}. Another decent combo in a deck like that is having {Rune-Scarred Demon} with {Phyrexian Metamorph} or {Phantasmal Image}.

Runner up is Image with Sun Titan which Prophylaxis played on me earlier.

At least in standard. It's not going to even compete with the neato legacy combos you post :D

Okay, I'll concede that my Standard combos aren't breaking any formats. I just don't want to repost other people's combos, and lots of people beat me to the punch. 😭
