Title: Unexpected Finds (movies)
Post by: FlickerYourOwnIdentity on December 14, 2013, 09:48:38 PM
This is when you go to a movie and expect something out if it, but get something completely different.

For me it was Frozen (just saw it) and I loved it.  The story had me crying at times, and genuinely scared for the characters.  The comic reliefs I expected to hate were surprisingly funny.

What was your unexpected find?

Rid of Me was better than I thought it was going to be. I actually didnt have any expectations for it. I came across it on Netflix and quite enjoyed it. Same with Wrong and Rubber. Enjoyed both of those.

Bridge to terabithia, expectation: something kinda like narnia
Reality: one ofthe most boring pieces of garbage I have ever seen, right up there with "an inconvenient truth"

Django Unchained. I was expecting a kill bill style out of it but I stead was blown away. I rate it up close to reservoir dogs for Tarantino.

Read the book. Loved it. Saw it in theaters. Blah. Bought the DVD when it came out. Still in shrink wrap. Only good part? Zooey Dechanel.

Pacific Rim

I thought it was going to be a cheezy CGI film.

Now it's one of my favourite movies

ahhhh... Ya beat me to it! The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they felt the need to fist-fight the aliens when they have a plasma cannon, other than that it was great!

I expected "Donnie Darko" to be a horor, but it had me hooked the whole time. Some people really don't like it, but don't bother trying to figure out exactaly what is happening.

I also loved "Life Aquatic with Steve Zesiou". Think i spelled it right.. By Wes Anderson. Not sure why, but it had me cracking up the whole time. Everyone told me it was boring and strange. It was strange.

I think i liked both of these so much because of how every second was original, and the interesting visuals. Again, i dont think everyone would love these movies.

I really enjoyed the movie The Number 23, I'm surprised a lot of people don't like it. I was hesitant to watch a movie with Jim Carey taking on a serious role. I kept having flashbacks to some of my favorites like Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. I was delightfully surprised.
