Modern, edh, standard?
Competitive, casual, both?
You want to draw first or play first?
Modern, I'll play.
Competitive (I'll use a pod deck).
If you're still up:
T1: Forest, {Birds of Paradise}
20/5
Hey. I can't start now unfortunately, but if you are ok for a sort of drawn out game, I have a home brew I've been wanting to try.
If you would rather play against a tested modern deck, I saw a couple lists online I wanted to try that look well tested.
Ok. Playing my home Bree which I call "modern slivers? Seriously?"
Muligan to six. {windswept hearth}. Sac to fetch {temple harder} untapped. Play {giraxian probe for free. Tap land to play {sidewinder sliver}. Pass.
15/5
{Windswept Heath} is not modern legal...
Ok. I am super embarrassed. I don't ever play modern in the real world, hence not having a well tuned deck on hand, so I a wasnt thinking when I typed up the deck lost online. I checked and the only non-modern cards in my list are {windswept Heath} x4 and {wooded foothills} x4
Three options:
One, we keep playing, when I draw eithe rod those cards, I instead draw {salt flats} or {misty rainforest} or whatever, this is a WGR deck, so removing those eight old cards and adding two each of the UR, UG, WB, and BG works with almost no change to gameplay (this time for example, I preferred the WG shock land, but I will assume the "worst" and instead draw the UR fetch, and I will get {sacred foundry} instead of {temple garden}.
Two: I fix my deck and reshuffle
Three: I use a different list that I saw online last week.
Which do you prefer? Sorry again. :/
Don't worry about it, it happens. :)
I vote replace them with {marsh flats} & {misty rainforest} (or whatever you want to) and reshuffle
Ok, I did that and I'll keep (though maybe I shouldn't).
Draw. {giraxian probe} for free. {verdant catacombs}. Crack the fetch land and get a forest. Cast {virulent sliver}. Pass.
17/6. What's in your hand?
You see:
{Viscera seer}
{Orzhov Pontiff}
{Kitchen Finks}
{Sunpetal grove}
{Overgrown Tomb}
T2: Untap, UK, draw
{Sunpetal Grove}, {Kitchen Finks}, pass
22/4
Ok. Draw. Play plains. Play {predatory sliver}. Pass.
17/5
T3: Ut, Uk, Draw
Shock an {Overgrown Tomb}, {Kitchen Finks}, {Viscera Seer}
Swing with a {Kitchen Finks} at you for 3,
then pass.
22/2
Take the three.
Draw. Giraxian probe. Ouch. Play {arid Mesa}. Get a mountain. Play {cautery sliver}. Pass.
13/4
Reveal:
{Orzhov Pontiff}
{Strangleroot Geist}
T4: Untap, Uk, draw
Play {Abrupt decay} on your {predatory sliver}
play {strangleroot geist}
swing with 2 {Kitchen finks} and one {strangleroot geist}
22/1
Take the 8. Strongly consider scooping. ;). Draw a land. Decide to scoop. Gg. +1. I'd love to play again, I can play this again if you like, or I can grab an actually good one. My go to good one was eggs, but they needed that hard.
Thanks +1 to you too!
I'd play any deck you want to play.
Ok, in gonna try a budget deck I read about.
I'll go first.
Play island. Play {blistercoil weird}. Pass.
Okay.
{Razorverge Thicket}, {Elves of Deep shadow}, pass
20/6
Draw. Play {slight of hand} and draw/ship to bottom accordingly. Play island. Play {peek} and draw. Swing for three with the weird. Pass.
20/5
Sorry for the delay. You see:
{Birthing Pod}
{Forest}
{Kitchen finks}
{Abrupt decay}
{Overgrown Tomb}
{Avacyn's Pilgrim}
Take 3
T2: Untap, Upkeep, Draw
Play forest, {Abrupt Decay} your {blistercoil weird}, then play {avacyn's pilgrim} and pass.
16/4
Ok. Your turn.
If you are interested after this, I found a weird modern deck that went 4-0 at a recent event that I wanted to test. Its interesting but I worry its too slow.
You're playing weird storm, right? I think it's cool, but too easy to take out.
It's actually your turn. :)
Yup. And having never played it against a person before, I see why it fails.
I just took my turn, drew a bunch of cards, and no second weird. Scoop and new game with different deck? Or you want me to finish? I feel like I havnt given you any challenges yet.
I understand if you wanna scoop. So far it does seem like my Melira-Pod has been crushing, so feel free to take out any deck that you feel can face it.
Well, I'm gonna try this combo deck I found on mtg daily this week.
I think that combo may be too slow with decks like yours in the format, but they are interesting, and usually more budget friendly.
Ok. I scoop. New game. I will go first and keep opening hand.
Island. {serum visions}. Draw, scry 2 and put back in opposite order. Pass.
20/6
Edit: this may be the decks nut draw, and that doesn't mean t3 win or anything, but its strong enough that if the deck doesn't work to his time I may give up on it.
Well my deck is technically combo, although usually it brings the beats. :P
Ok T1:Shock an {overgrown tomb} into {avacyn's pilgrim}, pass
18/6
Draw. Island. {howling mine} (don't forget to draw your extra cards) ;). Pass.
20/5
I know this deck. Uh-oh
T2: Ut, Uk, draw x2
{Sunpetal Grove}, {Birthing Pod}, pass
16/6
Untap. Upkeep. Draw {temporal mastery} and pay its miracle cost to cast it. Exile it. Draw a second card off the howling mine. Play island. Play {serum visions}. Draw. Scry 2. Ship one card. End turn.
20/5
Extra turn off temporal mastery.
Draw. Draw extra card. Play island. Pass.
20/6
Ok. These next two turns are make or break :/
Ut, Uk, draw x2
Play a forest, a {kitchen finks}, and pod off the {avacyn's pilgrim} for {melira, sylvok outcast}.
16/6
Alright, let's see it!
{cryptic command} to counter the kitchen finks and to bounce the birthing pod back to your hand. Does that change what you do at the end of your turn?
yeah i'll play a viscera seer at end of turn, then
16/7
Ok. So three lands, mana dork and the seer in play for you.
Draw. Draw again. Play island. Play {time warp}. Pass turn.

20/7
Should I keep going?
nah it's cool you've clearly combo'd off. Thanks for the great games!
Same to you. I'm happy to play more, and would be happy to find a a nice, friendly modern aggro deck to play. I feel like except for the game with slivers, we didn't really interact this game.
Okay, I'd be up for one last game :)
I'll go first
T1: {Razorverge Thicket}, {Elves of Deep Shadow}. Pass
20/5
You want me to use that deck again? Or find an aggro deck? I could always try slivers again, though I expect only slightly better performance next time.

Anything you want to use is fine, although I'd prefer to face the aggro deck. Your choice should come first, however.
I'll go slivers again...I have dreams of slivers in modern. Let's find out.
Draw. {arid Mesa} for {sacred foundry }untapped.
{Striking sliver}. Pass.
17/6
Ok
T2: Ut, Uk, draw
a second {razorverge thicket} into {spike feeder} and pass
19/4
Draw. Forest. {predatory sliver}. Swing for two. Pass.
17/5
Take 2
Ut, upkeep, draw
Forest, {Kitchen Finks}, pass
19/3
Draw. Play {sidewinder sliver} and {virulent sliver}. Swing for 4.
I'll let predatory sliver kill kitchen finks. Poison counters will be -x after life.
Ut, upkeep, draw
Smile deviously at how amazing my hand has been, then shock {overgrown tomb} for {archangel of thune} and combo off with her and {spike feeder}, then pass it back
1,000,000,000,000-1/2
Ok. That works. Lol.
Draw. Play {sinew sliver}. Swing with 4 slivers (makes more sense to say it that way instead of damage.
Pass. 17/4
Oh....ten thousand damage in the air, huh?
Gg! My deck went well, and just can't keep up. If you want to test against a good deck, I just found two affinity decks and combined them. Maybe we play that tomorrow.
Actually I'm leaving for a vacation tomorrow and won't have internet access for a while. I'd love to play again sometime when I get back though!
Sounds good. Your deck is pretty sick though. :). I wonder if that howling mine deck can beat you when it doesn't have a crazy perfect opening. Seriously. Turn two howling mine, turn three miracled time walk. :). I'll shoot you a PM so you can find me easy when you are online again.
Maybe I'll play the affinity then, or maybe we will play edh or something.
Can you post that blue combo deck or at least a link to it ?
Sure, but only If you'll help me improve it. Wanna play it first. ;)
Nah I don't have a modern deck
You want me to find you one? I have two competitive ones I am working on and one home brew aggro that isn't very good.
Wait I found an online list ill test so yeah let's go
Ok cool. You can go first. You want me to play the combo deck or an "affinity" aggro deck? Let me know and take your first turn.
Combo
Plains pass 20/6
Draw. Island. {syrum visions}. Draw one scry two. Ship one of the scry to the bottom. Pass.
20/7
Plains into {Student of Warfare} and level up once
20/5
Draw. Island. Pass.
Draw play {Cavern of Souls} naming knight and tapp out to play {Knight Exemplar} and swing for 1
Take the one. Draw. Island. {jace beleran}. +2 on jace (we each draw a card). Pass.
19/7
You take 2 I forgot about the buff from exemplar
Ill play {Knight of the White Orchid}
Search then play plains and ill level my student 3 times and swing with student
Ahh yeah. I'm at 18. And I assume you attacked me and not jace, correct?
Also, I have three lands, and at the start of your turn you already had three lands. Knight of the white orchard only triggers if I have more lands than you, right? If that changes your play, let me know.
Also, please indicate when you use your cavern of souls to make a creature uncounterable. If you don't say so (or say you are tapping out) I will proceed with the assumption that it is counter able.
Let me know if my above comment changes your play. I'm ready to take my turn but it depends on your response.
Only thing it changes is I use the cavern and 3 plains for {Hero of Bladehold} and do the attack for 2 and pass
20
At start of turn you had three lands. I assume you play a fourth from your hand.
Draw. Play island. +2 jace (7) so we both draw. Pass.
Discard island.
16/7
Ill play a plains
{Oblivion Ring} your jace and play a {Leonin Skyhunter} tapping plains and cavern (can't be countered
And I'll swing for 12 with student and hero and his tokens
In response to your oblivion ring, I cast {cryptic comand} to counter the spell and to tap all your creatures. Does that change your play of the sky hunter?
No changes in play your turn
Ok. Draw. Island +2 jace so we both draw. Cast {time warp}. Pass.
16/6
Extra turn.
Draw. +2 jace (11) (draw). Cast another {time warp}. Pass. Discard {ulamog, the infinite gyre}. Shuffle my graveyard into my library.
16/7.
Extra turn
Draw. +2 jace (13). Cast {syrum visions}. Draw. Scry two and return them. Play island. Play {time warp}. Pass.
16/7.
Extra turn.
Draw. Jace +2 (15). Draw. Exile {simian spirit guide} for one mana. Tap out to play {howling mine} and { time warp}. Pass
16/6
Extra turn.
Draw. Draw. +2 (17). Draw. Island. {kami of the crecent moon}. {time warp} Pass.
16/6
Extra turn.
Draw draw draw. +2 (19) draw. Island. {syrum visions}. Draw. Scry two and return. {temporal mastery} which is then exiled. Pass. Discard {island}. 16/6.
Extra turn. Draw draw draw. -10 jace to mill you for 20 (9). Island. {howling mine}. {slight of hand}. {walk the eons}. Pass. 16/7
Extra turn.
Show walk the eons, temporal mastery, and two cryptic commands in hand. GG? Or you want me to keep going?
No you won but that looks like an insane combo deck can you post or pm me the list?
Sure. I can't link it easily, but google Tappedout Ieatfood7 and find the Howling Warp deck. It's named after the guy who have me the idea (I only made a few changes from his deck list).
Game two? Also, any suggestions on improvements are welcome.
