Title: Mana Rock discussion
Post by: xStrayKnightx on December 09, 2013, 06:46:22 PM
What's better and why?
{Gilded Lotus} or {Basalt Monolith}?

I personally say the Monolith cause its cheaper and you can pay to untap it if you need to.

If you're in {U} and want to combo, monolith. For everything else, there's masterca-- I mean Gilded Lotus.

{Mana Crypt} or {Mana Vault}?

{Gilded Lotus} because it adds colored mana.

I'm going with the Lotus. It untaps naturally is my basis. It had the FTV:20 reprint out of the two, after all.

But why would you need to spend three color to untap three colorless? Anything you could use the Monolith for. the same mana could be used that you untapped it with In 99% of the time. I would have to say lotus. U get color mana. There are thousands of ways to untap a permanent (ie flicker) but the color in my opinion is just so much more of an advantage.

I agree, totally. I'm not using this to debate what to put in a deck; they're both in my primary EDH anyway.

Ah, I thought we were playing the "which card is better" game. The Monolith has it uses with some flicker effects or something like that. But I don't see a strong use for it personally. My opinion.

We ARE playing that game. I personally think that they're both great. For my deck, three colourless or coloured mana goes a long way in getting my creatures out. High mana curve. ^.^'

Ah, i see.... Well if your not running green (too many other mana sources that could work better in my opinion) then i can see it on high high curve. If your playing {U}{W} i would suggest a little flicker to bypass the cost to untap. U could even double or triple it up to get 6 or 9 in one turn for pretty cheap. I still like the lotus better at just card for card.

I agree, the Lotus is better with no additional context at all.

Inside my deck, which is commandeered by Kaalia, I need mana to get creatures out as quick as possible. I already have the Boros, Rakdos and Orzhov signets, and Gilded Lotus. I completely forgot about the Basalt Monolith. Which deck is that in, again?

What do you mean "which deck is it it?" I'm not following.
