If I sac a creature that has {gift of immortality} in response to it being targeted by {detention sphere} does it get exiled or does the sphere have no target now since it was killed off? Will it return or be exiled
Bubbling cauldron. Testing my newt deck and just happened to get a witch, gift of immortality and a cauldron. He detention sphered my witch before his attack and I sacrifice it with the cauldron. It's all in the wall game lol
Also he doesn't call it, he targets a creature. Then it gets the target then all with the same name
Partly why it confused me :P it targeted my witch so it would've exiled all named bogbrew witch but I sacrificed it so it had no legal target when it resolved even though it started off targeting bogbrew witch

So even with no legal target at the time it resolves it will still exile all with the same name as the original target even if the target isn't there anymore?
If the target nonland permanent is an illegal target when the enters-the-battlefield ability tries to resolve, it will be countered and none of its effects will happen. No permanents will be exiled, including those with the same name as the target.
