Title: Command Zone
Post by: Double-O-Scotch on December 05, 2013, 08:56:35 AM
Example.

My commander is on the battlefield. My opponent {cyclonic rift}s. When I return my commander to my hand, can I choose to put it in the command zone?

Next.

After my opponent returns my commander to my hand, my opponent casts {wheel of fortune} forcing me to discard my commander. When it hits the graveyard can I return it to the command zone?

Thx in advance...

Commanders can only be returned to the Command Zone if they hit the graveyard or æther stream (exile). If it gets returned to hand or shuffled into library, it stays there.

If they enter the graveyard from your hand, they can bounce back into the Command Zone.

Since we have some mixed answers, here's a ruling:

903.11. (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=903.11.): If a commander would be put into its owner's graveyard from anywhere, that player may put it into the command zone instead.

The same goes for exile:

903.12. (http://imtgapp.com/forum/index.php?action=imtg;area=rule;number=903.12.): If a commander would be put into the exile zone from anywhere, its owner may put it into the command zone instead.

Basically, if a commander is thrown into your hand or library, you cannot send it to the command zone. However, if it hits the graveyard or exile from ANYWHERE, you're free to send it to the CZ.

{Oblation} is truly terrifying. Especially when you use a combo deck that needs the comander.

You'd be the kind of Blue player that really annoys me. XD

I love spin into myth! I run that and chaos warp to deal with pesky commanders 😊

It's either exiled or sent to the command zone, depending on what it's owner wants to do.
