Title: Commander 2013
Post by: DylanW18 on December 04, 2013, 11:21:34 AM
I wanted to know people's opinions on a things!

What do you guys think of Oloro? Really? The lifegain is nice, but is he truly viable as a commander that consistently wins?

And is the Bant deck even good? I feel like there are no win cons and it just durdles

Opinions?

Haha! He said "durdles"...

I like Oloro, but you can't expect these decks to be viable on their own, if you customize them and change them around, they could be much better, I mean even just adding {angelic accord} or {chalice of life}/{chalice of death} makes it that much better!

I built my oloro, all my friend went out and bought copies of {rain of gore}, needless to say that deck now goes relatively unused

The deck is very viable depending on how you play it, even with people who sideboard a card to stop it.

The guy is a drawing machine even if someone messes with your normal functionality of your deck.

I can add the list I created, it's pretty ridiculous. I myself added a lot of mana rocks to be able to pull off more shenanigans consistently.

I nearly took first at the last commander tourney with {Derevi, Empyrial Tactician}. Having a {deciever exarch} as your commander is amazing. It's definately a combo deck but what is awesome is unlike {oona, queen of fae} the deck functions as a constant threat with or without combos. Everything provides so much value and at an accelerated pace that does not group hug. I think it is the most powerful of the new sets with or without modifications.

Griselband isn't legal?

Oloro.. hah you shouldnt look down on him. Dat lifegain reallly adds up over time.  Especially since you cant really stop it without something like erebos

Which makes me sad inside being that's it's my favorite card but I'm glad he is cause I would hate to be on the opposite end of that

Anyone else notice that one of the last few cards in that ban list was printed inside the original Commander set?

{Trade Secrets}! Tell me, Wizards, why put a ban on a card in the Commander format then print it inside a Commander set?

That's because it was printed in the first Commander set then banned later on, not the other way around.

Also because wizards has no control over the commander format, including its ban list. Mtgcommander.net controls the format's rules. Cards have even been printed by wizards with commander specifically in mind, only to be banned by mtgcommander for wizards going too far with it (see: {Griselbrand} and his oversized commander card in the Helvault)

'Tis just a case of the hand and head not working together.
