With EDH/Commander being a casual gametype, feel free to put on some modifiers if you play with friends. My group always increased the Infect count to 20, and doubled all other cards with similar effects ({Felidar Sovereign} increased to 80 life, for example).

To be fair, it's not an insta-win. It (and your life total) has to survive until your next upkeep.

Anyway, back to the rules. Yes, it is as Taysby says. The official ruling for infect is 10 poison counters equals a game loss, in any format.

But, as you can see, many playgroups house-rule a change to this. It's usually not an issue. Infect EDH decks are very rare (people hate them) so the only infect you tend to see in the format is {Blightsteel Colossus}.
