Title: PTQ
Post by: Teysa karlov on November 30, 2013, 04:00:17 PM
My and my mates are going to our first PTQ in Cardiff Wales in a couple of weeks!

What decks should we play for it?

We are play testing atm!
Decks that we have considered
- Orzhov midrange! 2 different approaches
- Mono Black devotion
- U/W Control
- Junk
- Golgari Midrange
- Mono Blue Devotion

Junk or UW would be my personal choices, but that all depends on playing style.

I don't see mono red devotion!!

That deck is pretty fun. Plus, after playtesting it myself, can be very effective.

Ehh, monored I was playtesting and found it to do very good against some decks and VERY bad against some others. For instance, {anger of the gods} just beats it in a single card, or {supreme verdict}... Just saying

Agreed. I have had an incredible run with this deck splashing white before deciding to play something else.

I feel like you really gotta splash white in for red Devo for protection/Boros charm

Going to that one too! I'll be bringing mono white, 5 colour control, and Murica heroic, but I'll be playing mono white.

Black devotion is good. Lots of removal and great creatures

Rakdos deck wins, it murders mono-colored decks.

Totally agree plus it destroys control!! Look at Navas Rakdos Aggro from GP Santiago his list is good but I'd make changes spending on meta

I typically splash green for the planeswalker. Who gives hexproof, but mass executions hurt.

I swear i keep looking at this thread waiting for Mlerner to suggest the  {Storm Crow} deck.... That lil guy cracks me up. But on a serious note, choose a deck and stick with it. Don't alter it within 7 days and play the (poo) out of it. Every card you pull you shouldn't even have to think about your next move. If you get a bad beat, take a deep breath and just keep playing your game 'ol boy!

Again BR Aggro. When that decks going its amazing!
T1 Cackler 2/2
T2 spike jester 3/1 swing 5
T3 Mogis Marauder 2/2 swing 7
T4 Exava swim lethal
Just awesome

Not at all. There's 3 one drops 5 2 drops 2 3 drops and a 4 drops it's VERY consistent

Not to mention it forces a lot of mulligans bc if your opponent doesn't have a T1 or 2 play they're done

Why, many tanks. And I wouldn't suggest that because I want Teysa to have his/her opponents at least have a chance :D

On the list id say Mono-blue devotion but otherwise I would reccfomebd {G}{U} flash/midrange/control thing :D

So do I lol and of course it happens but id say that WAY more often than not I just go 2-0 in like 5-10 minutes bc they can't handle the POWAAA

That's a god hand, you need to be more realistic. :P

Turn 1: {City of brass} tap for {Faithless looting}, discard {Golgari Grave-Troll} and {Stinkweed Imp}. Play {Lion's eye Diamond} tap to sac hand. Including {Bridge From Below}  Dredge more bridge from below and {Cabal Therepy} and {Necromeoba} sac from cabal Therepy. Zombiieeeeeeeeeeees. :)

You want to find a deck that can beat blue devotion and black devotion, it seems that everyone will be playing those decks, and that's what you will need to be able to deal with.
At very least, suitable answers for them anyway.

Best advice above^

Everyone will net deck - will you also or create the next net deck instead

Whatever you do, I just want to point out that BRW is really good right now and that {Supreme Verdict} is a 4 drop where as {Gray Merchant of Asphodel} is a 5. ;)

I would rather spend the bestow costs for {W}{U} constructed cause white weenie is so fast and powerful right now.  {Gray Merchant of Asphodel} is great in draft, but by the time a {B} heavy mana comes out  {Wingsteed Rider},  {Wavecrash Triton} and  {Favored Hoplite} has messed you up, and the whites are so big...
