I just called my LGS. They know me and know the money I spend. They sell boxes at 110. Asked them to go 95 a box cause of SCGblack friday sales. They said absolutely not. The SCG price is 89.99 a piece so it's not like I was trying to get one over on them.... Very disappointed. It's hard not to turn to the internet when this is the way customers who purchase release day cases are treated at the local shops. Was going to purchase two boxes of theros.

wow that is shitty. I'm going to try the same thing when I have cash because I can pick up boxes at a good price shipped.

I agree I think brick and mortar stores are shooting them self in the foot. I used to go to my local one $99 a box plus tax. They went up to $110 plus tax. I asked if I prepay for the whole box or boxes if they can get closer to the price of other lgs that are driveable (less then an hour). He asked his manager they said no. Then jacked up the FTV's. So now I stopped going there and bringing 2-3 people for drafts and sealed. So them not wanting to discount cost lost the constant half a draft I would bring on Fridays.

My LGS' idea of a Black Friday sale is selling some MMA boosters they kept for a rainy day...for normal price. 20% off every purchase over $150 :(

From the Vault: Twenty is available on MAGIC ONLINE again for whatever reason. I don't know if it's a Black Friday thing or not.

Someone had two carts...one with 4 vacuum cleaners. Standing. Hard to store. Inconvenient. Standing vacuum cleaners. And another cart. Filled with at least 6 to 10 stackable croc pots.

This was my first Black Friday I've gone to at Walmart.. I'm overly antisocial and hate being around people. Yea.. I could barely tolerate just being around people.. Then the sales started *shivers*

i know how that is. Usually I go with someone and I just stand in line with earbuds in and I play Duels of the Planeswalkers or read a book while they get whatever they want

I had to bring my happy butt to work all day Friday.

Loads of fun.

Selling boxes at 90$ hurts my heart. Haha

How does it hurt to hookup?

It eats my margins, and takes away my profits. Which is the only way to net profit. If I always "hookup" I may end as a Net Loss which will cause me to shut down.

All these kids think that they should get a "hookup" when they really don't really don't know what it does to the store. Maybe once or twice just for customer satisfaction, but to expect it regularly is laughable.

Don't stores only pay $50 a box? My LGS does. Obviously you need to make some money to pay for operating costs, pay employees, get more supplies to sell, ect. but for the most part $90 still makes you money but it also sells more. It's supply and demand. If the price is lower, more people will buy it and you should end up with the same or similar net profit.

At $110, maybe 10 people buy it, you make $600.
At $90, maybe 15 people buy (because it's on sale) and you still make $600.

Far more IMPULSE purchases this week than the general retail year.

Hell I almost bought a box yesterday but the logic in me stopped and just got a bunch of amazing CDs for .50 each :)

I think it depends if the stores actually get them from wotc or if they move less and get them from a distributer. I think the lgs I used to go to got them around the $70 price mark.

I buy two cases a time of each set. Were a very large store. Avg traffic is about 600-900 a day.

I won't tell you what I pay for a case, but either way, margin is margin. 20-30$ margin is not enough to stay in business. I have my BA in Business Management, and I worked very hard to get this far. I can't risk losing money.

Plus, if I do it for one person, someone else will ask for that, and so on. If I tell them no, I lose business. Not a very smart business plan.

I feel I ran a very good sale. It was extremely successful. So either way we win.

I typically let my manager handle the ordering of magic cards and decides on prices for such.
