Title: Is legendary a crad type?
Post by: Butch1977 on November 29, 2013, 12:52:23 PM
I was looking at  {World Queller} and it got me thinking. I browsed the rules section and really couldn't find anything. Normally it's (card type)-(sub type). Since the word Legendary is on the left side of the dash does that make legendary a legal card type to call? Or would I be able to call Legendary Creature as the type?

And of course as soon as I posted I found the answer in the rules..... Facepalm.

Its a super-type. Types are things that could be printed by themselves; artifact, land, enchantment, planeswalker, creature (so far always has a sub type).

Yeah I figured it out with the rule number I posted. Seems like every time I ask I find the rule I'm looking for 20 seconds later.

Not all things have a subtype. Almost all do but many of the non-basic lands do not have a subtype I.e. {dragonskull summit}

I think Kaleo was referring just to creatures always having a sub-type ;) human, soldier, beast, cat, etc. there's no "creature - nothing"

{Nameless Race} has no type, just Creature... ;)

I stand corrected. That is super weird.

This card just happens to be really old. The subtype for this card is nameless race. If you look at other creatures from "The Dark" set, you will find that none of them have the dash between the word creature and it's subtype.

R&D went back and assigned sub types to all creatures they deemed necessary. It is intentional that the oracle text doesnt include a sub type in spite of so many updates.
