Someone settle an argument for me.
My friend believes that having {Shadowborn Demon} and {Sheoldred, Whispering One} on his field at the same time is a fantastic idea. I say otherwise, purely on what's written on the cards.
I shouldn't need it, but can someone back me up?
It depends on what's in your graveyard.
If your graveyard had guys in there with powerful ETB or death effects, having Shadowborn sacrifice them again to be reanimated again next turn could indeed be amazing.
If your graveyard is just full of creatures you want to remain, obviously having Shadowborn around to keep making you sac them is not so practical.
So essentially, you're both right, it just depends on what your strategy is.
Well on one hand he's constantly sacing creatures but on the other, it really opens him up to enter the battlefield combos like grey merchant
That's a great combo! If you have a {Thragtusk} out, for instance, it would be good because you gain 5 life and a 3/3 every upkeep! But suppose you control nothing but Sheoldred and the demon. Even then, it's a killspell every turn! And if your opponents have no more creatures, you can just sac sheoldred to the demon's ability and bring her back with her own ability (it was placed on the stack before she died)!

That's actually awesome. He was talking about having just those two on the field, with no other cards or abilities being brought to the table, but that's awesome enough to adopt on my own.
Sheoldred's ability has to target a card in order to be on the stack. Unless you have another copy of Sheoldred or Shadowborn in your yard, you won't be recurring them that quickly.
You can still sac the demon to itself and reanimate it on your next turn. A free kill every other turn is still pretty alright.
With cards like {Ashen Rider} and {Angel of Despair} in my deck, being able to blow something up every second turn is nice. Saves me from having to flicker it with {Conjurer's Closet}, which I usually only use in conjunction with {Rune-Scarred Demon}.
